Pottering around Polis - then supper at the Veaseys - nom nom!!

It was a Monday with a difference in that I had no art.  Sheila has kindly let me bring my pencils home in case I get a minute to do some work on my picture, as yet I am ashamed to say I haven't found the time!!

With no need to get up early this morning we had planned a lie-in but Miss Minnie had her own ideas.  She came and squeezed in between us taking the duvet and the throw with her so that I had nothing on my side save for a cold arse!!!!  She was totally unconcerned and took great pleasure in grooming herself, noisily!!!!  Mum text to say she was in a similar situation with Freddo pinning her to the mattress!

John and I had planned to go and have a bit of a wander around Polis today in our third and final attempt at some Christmas shopping and so we had breakfast and then went off in the car.  It was a lovely bright day and we went cross country to the other side of Polis where the woodyard is located as we have a 'plan' for some undercounter drawers in the kitchen to hide the folding steps.  You have to just stop sometimes and take in the landscape around you.  It is pretty spectacular at the moment as the last few days of rain has really 'greened' things up.  We got the wood we needed and this will provide John with a bit of a project after Christmas when we get a bit of a lull in proceedings.

It turned into a glorious morning weather-wise.  We parked up on the edge of the square in Polis and went for a wander around which is something we rarely do - normally it is straight down to Paps and straight back but today we just wanted to have a mooch to see if we are missing out on something!  It is so hard to believe that Christmas Day is next week and just look at that fabulous deep blue sky!!

In my mind an opportunity to do some Christmas Shopping did not include a trip to George's DIY but heyho what do I know??  In fact we were looking for some brass handles for the shelves which John is going to build but which we eventually got from Glykkis so what a lucky girl was I to go to not one but two DIY stores today!!!

We continued our stroll around the town - I wanted to see if the place that had the random selection of pickled creatures still has the random selection of pickled creatures and blow me they are still there.  I quickly took a photograph because last time I did the guy came out and wanted to charge me.  Worryingly he still has rooms "To Be Let" - I wonder if you are late with the rent you end up in a jar.

Little Polis looks pretty festive in an ecclectic sort of way with a rather jaunty Father Christmas doing a strange dance outside Archontariki which now apparently has a nice glassed in conservatory area at the back and the florist by the rough carpark is sporting an impressive array of black wreaths which is everso slightly disconcerting!!

Still as Christmas really isn't a Cypriot celebration it is amazing that they really get into the swing of it now - pressure from the school children I guess who know all about Christmas traditions and who wouldn't want some random old man dressed in red pyjamas creeping into your bedroom one night in order to  stuff something into your stockings??

Anyway shopping trip over it would appear that Santa is bringing me some hard wood and some brass handles - woo hoo I can't wait!!

This evening we were having a pre-Christmas get together with Di and the Bobster - I was so looking forward to this as we always have a great night and a late night and we weren't disappointed as it was both great and late!!!

We are so lucky to have such good friends just down the road from us - it is just a shame that we have to negotiate Cardiac Hill which sits between us!!!

They had put a little gift bag at our place setting and they were filled with lovely little goodies - OMG the Spice bag was good enough to eat!!!

Bobby had been super kind to John and  presented him with a bottle of St Austell Brewery finest Tribute Pale Ale which John loved.  They have a shared love of footie and real ale which cements their friendship!!

The food was fabulous.  The starter of sweetcorn fritters was a revelation and I would most definitely have a go at making them myself - the spicy raita which went with them was fabulous too.  I was only sorry that I couldn't fit the square plate into my handbag because I have been looking for some square ones for ages but I just can't find them at a price I want to pay!!!

We had a break between courses to play the Popmaster Quiz which was very difficult but Bobby was victorious, Di second and John and I bringing up the rear!!!  Our quiz was followed by a delicious chicken and pea risotto which was cooked in .front of us which I think was very brave of Di.  Pud was a Tiramasu which I would normally say is not one of my favourites because I don't like the sloppy sponge part of it but Di's was superb - no slop in that one and very light - I am now a convert!!!

We played the present game - it is always a laugh and we get quite competitive.  Di and Bobby have chosen to open their prize bags at Christmas but fear not all you nice conservationists we will be using the bags again next year or sooner!!  We rounded off the evening with some super sounds from the Bobster's vast collection.  John was a footie child through and through so he is now being educated in music through the ages which he is really enjoying.

Thank you Di and Rob - thank you for such a fab evening and for being such fab friends.  We made it up Cardiac Hill by which time I was regretting all the layers I had put on!!!!!
