April 1st but it is no joke...

After some indifferent weather today started out bright and sunny.  John has done a fabulous job giving our pool a deep clean and it now looks very inviting or it did until the wind picked up and then it was like a bloomin' hurricane and John had to put the cover back on because all sorts of crap was blowing into it.

The paint in the downstairs toilet has dried out well and bar one little patch that I managed to miss (which John sorted) it was all tickety-boo and so everything has been put back in and it is all looking clean and tidy.

I had plans to do a bit of gardening but the wind got worse and worse so I only went out long enough to take a bit of video so you can see what I mean.  With our liberty curtailed we have to find things to do so when my gardening went up the swanny I was a bit stuck as to what to do instead.  John was happy to watch something on the TV so I set about the watercolour challenge that I have set up between me and Stalker Bill - well it started out as being just between the two of us and then Wendy suggested opening it up to a wider audience and so now I am hopeful that there will be quite a few people joining in, with the voting if nothing else!!

Tonight was to be a real fridge surprise meal for us.  I had some leftover mashed potato, some crab sticks which have been in the freezer quite some time, some old slices of chorizo, half an onion and half a lemon and withered apple and a crust of bread and so I scoured the internet and then found a recipe which I adjusted slightly by adding in the apple - it was for Ukranian Chorizo Crab Cakes.

I made a salad and used up some oven chips that were loafing in the freezer and we cracked open our last bottle of Vasilikon Rose and it was actually really, really good and we will be having the remainder tomorrow - we had planned to have a takeaway from Fitos (using our solitary daily pass out of the house) but I text and they are not able to do takeaway at the moment.  Rumour has it they have been contravening the rules by having people inside the taverna but that might just be rumour.

Had a lovely video call with Hazel tonight.  She is being philosophical about the likelihood of her being able to come over as planned.  I think she will be wise to leave it until next year because even if she could come as planned who knows what sort of island she will be coming to.

We think we have it bad - an extract from The Ration Book
Throughout what was known as 'The Hunger Winter' Dutch people were reduced to eating the tulip bulbs for which their country is famous.  These were roasted on stoves and turned out to be tasty enough but the trouble was that they gave people a very nasty dose of indigestion.
