We are now at the end of our first week of 'lockdown'. It is not complete, we have been advised to stay at home and that is what we are doing but we think it is only a matter of time until this is enforced.
We have, therefore, agonised long and hard as to what we should do today, it being Mothering Sunday and with Mum on her own save for Freddo. We have increased the amount of contact we have with her on a daily basis via a video link and she has been brilliant because I know she hates to be confined to the house.
We thought that as she would go straight from the house into the car (she has an integral garage) and drive carefully to us and then come straight from the car into our house that she would be ok today. She also wanted to go and see Dad at the cemetery and is under no illusion that this might be the last time she would be able to do so for a while. So we decided that was what was to happen and I would cook something special for her and then we would assess the situation daily to see whether or not it was to be the last time until this crisis is over. I know that she will be hoping that it was not but equally I know that she will be sensible if the government reviews its travel restrictions.
We had her favourite - it was the least I could do - Hunters Chicken, coleslaw and wedges followed by Apple Strudel. I had done enough of the main course for her to take a meal back and I know she enjoyed it because she ate every bit on her plate even though she had a fair old serving!!
I felt sad when it was time for her to go. We had questioned just how Dad would have coped with the current situation - he would have had an opinion that's for sure and wouldn't have been shy in expressing it. I was glad Mum had been able to get to the cemetery to have a chat with him.
We approach week 2 of the crisis with some stoicism - what will be will be - we will just have to make the best of it.
Just want to end with a fabulous photograph of our lovely neighbours George and Pam who are due to come out later in the year, not having been able to do so for a couple of years.
It looks like this bloody virus may conspire to keep them away again this year but we are really really really hoping that this is not the case.
We just want to send them a big old hug and look forward to the time when we will be together again xxx
