Hot hot hot

The combination of the extreme heat and ongoing concerns about Coronavirus (even though lockdown has been relaxed) is making me a bit agoraphobic I think.  I really don't have much enthusiasm about going out anywhere particularly if it is going to make me hot and sticky but today we didn't have a lot of choice because John had an appointment at the dentists today down in Peyia.  He has to have a crown fitted and not being sure exactly what was going to be done today I went along so that I could drive him back if needs be.  As it happens it was all the prep work today and he chose to have that done without anaesthetic which he said tested his pain threshold on several occasions.  Still it was a shortish visit and we were heading back home and the comfort of the pool in less than an hour.  The fitting of the crown will take place in a couple of weeks.  Our dentistry is done through a private dental surgery but we are lucky enough to have an insurance policy in place which we brought with us from the UK which means we will end up paying nothing.  The cost of John's crown will be €300 because his tooth was not good enough to take the more expensive €500 model apparently and it is one of the molars right at the back so no-one will get to see it.

I had a phonecall this afternoon to say that Kronos were trying to deliver me a parcel  so I shot up to the Mukhtar's supermarket to meet the chap.

My parcel is a kitchen waste bin gizmo thing which folds and attaches itself over the top of one of the kitchen cupboard doors and then you can open it out to catch the waste.

With the weather so hot we dont have any bins in the house - they attract ants and smell so we wanted a nice neat solution.  We could just have a carrier bag on the side for the waste but I thought this looked neater - time will tell whether it is something which looks better and more useful than it actually is.

We were quite surprised today to see someone being shown around the house next door - although we did know that it was up for sale having been repossessed.  On paper the description it has been given makes it look quite attractive although we are not sure what viewers will think when they see the reality.  This house has been empty for nearly 10 years, had an illegally built extension which is like a sponge but which has been given a title-deed amnesty unfortunately and a pool which is black and filled with mosquito fish and the interior reflects the extent of the damp from which it suffers.  It will come as a bit of a shock to us if we get neighbours, not having had anyone there since we moved in.  We just hope they will be nice and quiet.  Anyway it has galvanised us into action as we have been planning to have the windows and door of the conservatory and our bedroom windows covered with reflective film for both privacy and heat/cold purposes.  The illegal extension has bedroom windows that can look straight into ours (and vice versa) so we have always intended to do something about that.  The man is coming next week - and will clean the windows which is a bit of a bonus!

This hot weather has meant we haven't felt overly hungry so tonight was a simple Greek Salad and the last couple of slices of the ham which we got for Wednesday when Mum came up.  This was to prepare us for the footie match this evening which was SUFC v Tottenham.  John was a very happy bunny as they put in a great performance and beat Spurs 3-1 and for once they had a VAR decision that went in their favour.
