So long, farewell Clare - safe journey

Not much to report on today save that we were invited to go around to Clare and Les's for a farewell piece of cake and glass of bubbly as Clare was supposed to be flying back to Hong Kong in the next couple of days except that her flight had been unceremoniously cancelled and she is now in danger of not getting back in time to fulfil her contract requirements.  It doesn't seem to matter that Hong Kong has closed all its schools - she has been told she needs to return, quarantine for the requisite number of days and then be ready to teach.  This is somewhat out of her control.

We walked down at met Di and Rob outside of Lush's and walked through the centre of the village hoping that we would be able to negotiate the roadworks and get to where we needed to go.  Mindful that Di came a cropper the other evening on what was deemed a 'good' road we didn't want a repeat performance.

They have started the 'B' phase of the works without having completed the 'A' phase and so there is now total chaos in trying to navigate to homes and businesses.  Panic seems to have set in as, talking to Bambos, we understand the project is due to finish in October having been given extra time due to inclement weather earlier in the year and the corona virus.  The words piss-up in a brewery come to mind.  We appease ourselves by saying it will look lovely when it is finished but I am not so sure that some of the buildings with survive the ravages of the diggers and the cobbling appears to come to an abrupt end midway along the main road which is random.

I have no idea how the elderly manage - we struggled to negotiate the hazards and I hope Les has the foresight to move his car from outside his house soon otherwise he will not be able to get it out and he will be given no warning.

I am pleased to report that we all made it there and back without injury but had to make sure we left before the light started to fade for fear we might end up in some gully.

Not only had Clare got cake, and not just any old cake, a classic carrot cake from Paps which is absolutely lush, she had put on a bit of a spread which we were not expecting and very kind of her as she has had a fraught time of it over the last couple of days with the ongoing flight fiasco.

Clare says she plans to see out this last year in Hong Kong and then will be in Droushia with Les permanently - we keep pulling her leg that we have heard it all before but she clearly has a great love of her life in Hong Kong and it is going to be quite hard for her to give that up once and for all.  You couldn't really get much more of a contrast between Hong Kong and Droushia!!!

Anyway safe travels Clare whenever that might be and we will keep an eye on Les in the meantime!
