Bloody New Blogger didn't post my post last night!!!

Today John was in full-on Uncle John mode and Mum was in full-on Granny Mo mode as we welcomed the Rogers family to our house for Sunday lunch.  They all arrived around mid-day and as I busied myself in the kitchen the kids (including John) went for a swim.

Our relationship with Simon and Melanie goes back to when we first came to Cyprus - it is a real case of Six Degrees of Separation!!  (Six Degrees of Separation is the idea that all people are six, or fewer, social connections away from each other.  Also known as the 6 handshakes rule.  As a result, a chain of "a friend of a friend" statements can be made to connect any two people in a maximum of six steps).

When we moved out here permanently Simon and Melanie were neighbours of my Mum and Dad in Lakoudia Street.  It transpired that Simon was brought up in Cornwall in a tiny place called Gorran Haven which is an absolute pebble's (not even a stone's) throw from the little hamlet my Dad grew up in called East Portholland and Simon went to the same school as my Dad although many years later obviously!!!

Very early on in our retirement here our friends Hilary and Keith came over to play in a Big Band which was putting on concerts around Cyprus and we went to meet up with them after a rehearsal at Ricco's Beach where they introduced us to Simon and Melanie (Simon played in the band) who were just about to purchase a house in Droushia and of course we already knew them through Mum and Dad.  That was nearly 10 years ago!!!

So we meet up periodically, not as often as we would like but work, children, covid-19 and life in general seem to get in the way.  When we do we have a good time - the girls Jasmine and Frances are charming and, give them the right food, no bother to feed!!!  Today we had chicken souvlaki, halloumi, salad, dips, potatoes and bread and Melanie had kindly brought a freshly made (still piping hot) crumble for pud for which I was extremely grateful as I don't like making puds.

Mum was onto a winner when she brought with her a jigsaw for the girls to complete - not just any jigsaw but a Frozen II jigsaw which Jasmine loved - Frances took herself and her kindle off to the Do-Jo for some peace and quiet and the hope that one or other of the cats, preferably Charlie, might join her.  The rest of us all had to put in a piece - but not the last one as that was reserved for Jasmine!  I am not sure that any of the cats joined Frances but I can be sure that Boris gave the girls a wide berth - he clearly doesn't like children and kept well away.

Tah-Dah - the completed puzzle!!!  Mum has donated this to the girls so no doubt they will be tackling it again.  We had a lovely afternoon on what was possibly one of the hottest days of the year and here we are at the end of August with weather warnings in place for next week.  I was so hot having been in the kitchen but really happy when Mum text to say she had really enjoyed her day and my lunch was first class.  That's all that matters - people come and enjoy themselves and my food.
