Enough of that, today we started the day healthily with a smoothie because I had some fruit and yoghurt that needed eating up. It's a nice way to start the day and infinitely preferable to the green juice that Argy gives Lakis!!!
On that subject both John and I agreed that whilst we had really, really enjoyed our meal last night, we were uncomfortable about how much it had cost. We didn't want to seem ungrateful but we are still wondering how one fish could cost so much - I know it was a special Dusky Grouper but at that price I would have liked it to have been gold plated!!!
It had been so very generous that we were just shell-shocked so after a bit of a discussion we decided we had to do something about it and decided there was really only one course of action...
We knew that our lovely neighbours would not accept any money towards the meal so we headed off to the winery to go and buy a box of white wine to leave with them and we were not going to accept NO for an answer.I have to say that Nicky made a great job with the walls - not finished I know but what a difference a coat of paint makes to the look of the property. They have chosen the same 'clotted cream' colour as was used by Lakis and Argy and just one coat gives a decent covering. They are having the natural stone sealed and repointed next week as they have seen what Bassam has done across the road at 10a. Before you know it this little house is going to look unrecognisable.
John and I went into the village this evening, stopping at the cemetery first and then going to check the post before John went up the hill to seek out Les and to take him for a drink and a sandwich as we are worried about how he is coping on his own without Clare. You can see that the PO Boxes for Droushia must be pretty unpopular as they are about to be obscured by some sort of gourd which Marina is growing in a pot nearby.
As I walked back to the car I smiled to see how someone had decided to support the overgrowing branch from a fruit tree - looking at the state of the seat of the old village chair the bricks in underneath would be coming into play sooner rather than later. I also saw that the for sale sign at Droushia House had been removed so guess someone got themselves a bargain - a 5 bed place reduced to €150K even with work needing doing to it was going to be a steal for someone - I had mentioned it to Andrea and John (a builder) from 4A as I thought it would be a project right up their street.
Whilst John was out I had a hot date with the Iron. I haven't really been paying it too much attention as it has been too blooming hot but this evening with all the doors and windows open it wasn't too bad. Apparently we are to get the tail end of the awful storm which has been ravaging the Greek Islands so we are expecting a few days when it is cooler and more unsettled.
