Very Good - Veriko

Today we met someone new who lives in the village - Andy Savva.  I had decided to find a new home for my mosquito net and he had answered the call for it.

We have been 'friends' on social media for some time.  He has a love of  as do I and lives in Droushia having returned to the family home after living in London.

It was really nice to meet him and we did a barter exchanging my mosquito net for quite the largest bunch of Veriko grapes I have ever seen!!!

We have agreed that when we have more time we will meet him in the village for a drink - he is a man with loads of stories and was telling us that he is donating his mother's old sewing machine (which appears to have traveled the world) to the museum in the village.

We had only quickly nipped out with the net and ended up returning nearly an hour later but laden with grapes!!!  Anyway thank you Andy if you read this we shall enjoy them.

Just to show you this is a large platter and the grapes are massive and juicy - the only trouble is that they have pips and I am not good if I accidentally bite on a pip!

We had invited Les to come and have supper with us as we are a bit concerned about how isolated he is feeling without Clare and without vehicular access to his house - in fact sometimes access on foot is almost impossible.  This is as a result of the cobbling happening in the village and unfortunately Les and Clare's little house is up a side street which no other way to get to it.

The last couple of times Les has been I have done curry so I thought tonight we would have something a little different and so I had done a spicy sausage casserole which I was going to serve with mustard mash and peas.  This time Les arrived at the right time but I had been prepared just in case he came an hour early like last time.  At least now he finds our house without getting lost.

We managed to sit outside for our meal but there has been a definite shift in the weather and we are now firmly into Autumn.  The days are great but the nights are cool and damp and the pool temperature is dropping.  We stayed until it was too dark and too cool for it to be comfortable and then moved into the conservatory where the temperature was still in the high 20s.

It was a nice evening - I know that Les appreciated the company and a home cooked meal and I packed him up a doggy bag so that I knew he would have something to eat tomorrow (or whenever he decides to have it).  Les is making the dreaded trip to the Transport Department in Paphos to try and transfer over his current driving licence to a Cypriot one.  He has tried once before but failed to find the place (even though there is a blooming great sign for it!!).  We had an abortive attempt the first time as all the computers were down but were successful the second time.  The receptionists there are renowned for their unhelpfulness at the best of times but now that there is a panic on for residents to get this sorted before the end of the year and the Brexit transition period they are even worse (apparently!!).
