Clocks change

We none of us got the memo about enjoying an extra hour in bed this morning.  We had done the clocks prior to going to bed so when we peered at the clock it was showing the new correct time - 6.00am.  Minnie was vocally demanding her breakfast with a sleepy Boris close behind but no Charlie which is worrying and doubly worrying because he had come and jumped on my head in the early hours and I had shut him out closing the window behind him so he could not return.  As my punishment he goes missing just long enough for me to start getting worried.  It is hard to go out onto the estate and call or whistle quietly when you know people are sleeping and sensibly enjoying the clock change (which we think may well now be our last).

Today is Sunday and originally we had arranged to go to Fitos with Bassam, Amoura, Rabia and Lola but the kids are in enforced quarantine due to there being some students testing positive at the Gymnasium in Polis and, we are now limited to just 6 at a table when out eating and that would have made us a party of 7!!  We have postponed until we are able to do it whenever that might be.  As an alternative we asked Nicky and Mark if they would like to join us and they were happy to do so.

Mum came with a little job for me.  As a wearer of earrings, glasses and hearing aids she gets in a right old mess when putting on and taking off her mask.  She is always concerned that she is going to lose one or other of them and she is particularly concerned that it will be a hearing aid.  She brought with her a knitted 'strap' which is supposed aid this conundrum.  She wanted me to sew on some buttons and the idea is that the 'strap' goes around the back of your head and the mask straps are put around the buttons but the straps on the lovely masks Janice has made for us aren't long enough and you have to be pretty dexterous to be able to put on your mask, avoid your earrings and hearing aids, find the buttons and attach.  We tried and failed!

Mark two was to attach something to the arms of her glasses and John fashioned some sponge extensions which the straps slipped over - this worked pretty well and the sponge was comfortable BUT Mum looked a bit like Mr Spock or someone who had got into a pickle with a couple of bluetooth phone handsfree gizmos.

Mark three was much more stylish - this involved using some elastic thread and buttons which fit onto the arms of her glasses and still enable the mask to fit snuggly on the face.  Mum can just take her glasses off and the mask comes too and then she can unhitch the straps.  As we think masks are something we are going to have to get used to for quite some time this looks to be a reasonable solution to her problem.

Nicky and Mark traveled with us to Fitos - we think they have only been there once before - and as members of different households we wore our masks en route.

We had our favourite Table 1 which is on its own so no worries about social distancing and from here you can have full control of windows and curtains.  This was good because the weather today was outstanding after a very windy night (coptic).

We had a really lovely lunch all choosing something different, beef pie, halloumi and chips, pork chop, cod and chips and oven baked lamb preceded by the usual plate of mixed dips and a bowl of salad and followed by a scrummy freshly baked apple cake.  All this food with a bottle of wine, large bottle of water, beer, coke and sprite came to less than 70 euros - what a bargain!!!
