Sunday

Sundays seem to come round far too quickly at the moment.  There must be at least three in a week surely?  Still this week I was a veritable Boy Scout - I was prepared - I had lunch all sorted and under control with Mum's current tooth situation taken into consideration.  She is currently without her bottom gnashers and this is making it very difficult for her to chew.  With this in mind John had suggested pork medallions in a light cream sauce with mashed potatoes and peas and that is what we were having and to be fair that is a nice easy and quick meal to produce so I don't get hot and bothered in the kitchen.  Pork tenderloin is such a bargain over here - I got a large one which fed us all today with enough left over for Mum for tomorrow for just over 3 euros!

We also decided to take a trip out after lunch to break up the day and thought Mum might like to check out the Nursery at Agia Marina which has had a facelift recently and now has more interesting gifts just as you get inside the door.  We were looking for a little birthday gift for Belinda whose birthday is next week and we had seen how many plants and pots they had moved in with them so thought this would be a good idea.

I have to say I was well impressed by the changes - and Marina was saying they have more lovely stock to come for Christmas which will be interesting.  Everything looked green and lush and healthy and we picked up a pot with a lovely multi-coloured heather inside as the present and picked up something similar with a fern for ourselves.

Mum loved the hibiscus plants - they have them in absolutely every colour imaginable and the blooms are huge.   I have struggled in the past to get hibiscus to grow in my garden even though Savvas down the road has a complete hedge of red flowering ones.

It was a lovely drive to and from the nursery.  Mum was reminiscing about the fact that she and her friend Eileen would drive up to Argaka from Emba and spend the day on the beach when there was nothing in Argaka save for one taverna (no longer operational) where you could hire chairs to go sit on the beach.  Bearing in mind that was over 20 years ago that was quite a trek on roads that were little more than single width cinder track.

Just where you turn off the main road from Argaka up to the garden centre there is an ancient coffee shop/cafe and I can hear my Dad saying - I have eaten there.  He used to do a lot of walking and they would always find some eatery for their patronage after the walk had ended.  Said establishment doesn't look to have functioned in years but I can still here him saying he had been there.

The final stop on our day out was to have an ice-cream at the parlour in Prodromi.

Mum chose the vanilla in a tub, John had double pistachio in a cone and I had orange in a cone.

We sat outside to have our pudding.  It was interesting to see the woman inside de-pipping hundreds of pomegranates presumably for the sorbet/icecream that they make with them - when she got up to serve us she looked like she had committed murder but it was just the juice.

All in all a very successful Sunday and Mum was pleased to go out somewhere different and she had a takeaway for tomorrow.

She had mentioned an issue with her TV system which we also managed to resolve when she got back home.  I know the vagaries of the streaming systems over here can be very annoying and she struggles to understand what goes wrong when it goes wrong.  Anyway this evening we were successful in resolving the issue and her understanding and making notes she could understand - wooooo hoooooo.  We are ALL happy!
