Monsoon Conditions...

So sadly the weather forecasters did not get it wrong and the weather today was awful - monsoon conditions and it was cold and miserable.  We did not have a huge amount planned for today thank goodness save to clean up the two bedrooms ready for Christmas and our special guest.  We woke to no power and no internet so didn't race to get out of bed as there was nothing much we could do until power was restored.  The beauty of having lived here for nearly 10 years is that these weather conditions no longer surprise us and we are about as prepared as we can be.  We have battery operated PIR lights which light up the kitchen and we have a little gas burner which enables us to boil water so that we could have a coffee and sit is out until the power was restored.

Fortunately the power came back on and I was able to get on with my cleaning.  Our bedroom got a good bottoming which scared the living daylights out of Minnie who had been snoozing quite contentedly on our bed as is her norm and then I came in and disturbed her slumbers.

Our spare bedroom is generally used as John's dressing room and my ironing room but Mum is coming to stay and so I wanted it to look nice and for the bed to be warm and cosy for her.  I had to find the electric blanket and test that it was working but with my hot hands that can be quite difficult to ascertain!!  Anyway I am hoping she will feel like the princess and the pea as I have put a lovely thick fluffy throw on top of the mattress and she has a duvet and a throw on top and one of my crocheted blankets.  The set of drawers by the bed are empty and there is a row of empty hangers on the door for her clothes, hopefully that will be enough for her.

There were times today when we had hailstones the size of golf balls and the noise was so loud I couldn't hear mum on a video call.  John's roof repair has worked thankfully so although the weather was shit there wasn't much else to worry about.  The cats were unimpressed - particularly when they needed to answer a call of nature!!!

The girlies are supposed to be walking tomorrow but the forecast doesn't look like it is going to be dry so we have decided to just get together and have a cuppa and a chat.  Bless Nicky, she decided at the eleventh hour to make a ginger cake as it is Rachel's favourite - John was despatched across the road with some emergency brown sugar!!
