New Year's Day

New Years Day 2021 - I wonder what this year will throw at us?

Well to begin with it has thrown us two poorly cats - although it is quite hard to tell that from the photograph but Charlie has had a tear in his ear which turned into an abscess and this necessitated a trip to the vets because he scratched all the fur and the dead skin off of the ear and reopened the wound and it looked awful.  We have also got to the bottom of Boris's aggressive behaviour and he too has an abscess on his left flank - we could see a strange mark and felt what seemed to be a cat claw in his skin but on closer inspection as I pulled that 'claw' away it turned out to be the scab over the brewing abscess so I had to remove it and squeeze out the nastiness and then administer some Dermagel knowing that this would be exactly what the vet would do.  He is much less aggressive and we can handle him providing we steer clear of the abscess.  He may well need to go to the vets but they are currently closed due to it being New Year save for emergencies and to be fair this isn't a massive emergency now we know what we are dealing with.

I wanted to get the Christmas decorations packed away we cannot have anyone come into our house so really they are serving no purpose unless you are superstitious.  John was more than happy to get the house back to normal and so that is what we did this morning.  We also took the opportunity to sort out some decorations which we were no longer going to use and therefore donate to charity and I took a big bunch of red artificial poinsettia and put them on Dad's grave.  I don't really like artificial flowers but they did add a lovely splash of colour.

The morning had been very overcast, not cold but quite cloudy but as the day wore on the sun broke through the clouds and it became really very pleasant.  We decided that we would venture down to Polis and get rid of our recycling and then pop over to Latchi and take a walk along the Marina.

We went back home and got ourselves a sandwich - I had a chili on the go in the slow cooker so supper was sorted and I had cooked up some sausages to make a casserole on Monday - a forerib of beef has been earmarked for Sunday and now we have some room in the freezer!!

We donned our trainers, picked up our masks just in case (they aren't needed if you are exercising) and headed off for the coast.

I love Latchi and it was Dad's favourite spot too.  We parked at the large carpark - we call is the Sunken Carpark probably because if we get very heavy rains it gets flooded!!! and we walked along the marina out towards the beautiful statue of Regina along with a whole host of other people who were obviously oblivious of the restrictions so John and I skirted around the masses making sure we kept well away.

We walked to the end taking in the view and enjoying the sunshine and then walked back avoiding the throng of people queueing to go into the Coffee Island coffee bar for a takeaway drink.  We are expecting stricter measures to come into force and looking at what was going on today you can see why unfortunately.

Back home we locked the gate and settled down to our chili and a couple of episodes of Tin Star before having an early night.  Day one of the new year completed.
