Nicky and I take a fabulous Walk

The weather is changing, much cooler although not wet as was forecast or at least not wet yet.  It being Tuesday I was going walking with Nicky and John was going walking with Liselotte and just before I set off at 8.30am I hastily grabbed my little raincoat in a bag and shoved it in my rucksack because I didn't want to get caught out again like I did last week.  Fortunately it was not needed but I have the sneaky feeling that if I had left it behind it might well have been required.

I had used Kamoot to plot both the walks today - for John and Liselotte a hike of some 14.4Km with ascent of 585 meters which they said was fabulous and took them from Inea down to the forest and back with a couple of off-piste detours and no photos because when they walk, they walk.  The walk I planned for Nicky and me was about 10Km starting and finishing at the church in Arodes and I had been kind and included only a small bit of ascent but had no idea exactly where it would take us.

The first part of the walk took Nicky and me on the same route as I had gone with Liselotte on Thursday but shortly after leaving Arodes there was a fork in the road and Nicky and I took the left and on Thursday Liselotte and I had taken the right.  As we continued to walk along what was quite a decent road the weather improved although there was till a chill in the air.

We followed the route and were amazed by the scenery - the southern coastline looked so clear and so close - if you look hard at this photograph you can see St George's island to the left of the tree in the middle.  We didn't go down any further towards the coast - we took the left fork which you can see on the edge of the photograph and then encountered a total surprise.

As we turned left and kept walking we realised we were on the edge of a ravine and down below we think that must have been the famous Avakas Gorge.  We walked carefully to the edge to have a look at the view and were just lost for words - it was so spectacular.

When I was plotting the route I had no idea what are we would be walking through and it was such a surprise.  I said to Nicky that I could replot the route and make it a little shorter so that she could do it with Mark because I think he would be blown away by what is on our doorstep.

Apart from a sharpish incline back to the start most of the rest of the walk was pretty flat and that meant we were able to cover a longer distance without killing ourselves!!  Part of the walk must have been on a nature trail because a lot of the plants were labelled and there were various old structures which had an explanation to them.  I have to say it is one of the most enjoyable walks I have had so far and I am so keen to do it again with John.
