It was a much greyer start to the day than it had forecast but it didn't rain so I was up and out and in Kathikas for 8.30am and my walk with Rachel.  My planned walk had originally been a bit shorter but Rachel is happy to push herself so I extended it and we were to tackle 11km but rather than going down from Kathikas and therefore back up on our return this was more of a sideways track which meant the total ascent and descent weren't too bad and the shape of the walk leant itself to being referred to as the 'Willy Walk' (apologies if this offends anyone!!).

Some of the walk was familiar but some took us on new tracks - we started out in Kathikas village and took the road out towards Akoursos but after a short distance, just opposite the three rental villas at Kathikas Breeze we took a sharp left down into the valley and walked back to the main Kathikas/Stroumbi main road and then crossed over and headed towards Akourdaleia.

Our walk took us directly past Sterna Winery and the owners lovely house and then on tracks along the edge of a field until we met the main Kathikas/Akourdaleia road which we crossed over and then started walking towards Kritou Terra (although not that far today - not enough time but there are tracks that take you all the way).

It came as something of a surprise as we started walking down a track which had a sharpish bend to the right stretching out in front of us and we realised that the building in the distance was the little church which has an old church in a cave underneath.  Nicky, Rachel and I had been to that church before this lockdown as part of a different walk.  We hadn't realised that today's route would take us anywhere near this.

The skies were threatening but it didn't rain and in order not to feel the cold we kept up a good pace - probably the fastest we have managed to walk so far without feeling completely knackered!!!  We had options to make our walk a bit longer but decided that with time running short and our legs beginning to ache that 11km was a good distance and quite a step further on our bigger challenge to walk (virtually) from Land's End to John o'Groats - we are nearing Taunton - an area that Rachel and I know well from our past.

Once back home I always feel invigorated so as we are off to Mum's tomorrow for lunch I got busy making the Sausage Cassoulet which we are having and which Lilian is coming to share.

John had been busy in my absence and he had done the insulation in the spare bedroom and been to check on Les.

When we were happy we had done everything we wanted to get done today we settled down.  John lit the fire and I pimped up a pizza for supper and we watched some TV with the cats for company.

John's team had a make or break game this evening but it was the late kick off and wouldn't finish until midnight and he wasn't feeling hopeful so decided to watch on catch up tomorrow morning - as it happens we ended up seeing the score and apparently it was a woeful game of football - so the less said about that the better.

So I will finish today with a little Kamoot video of today's walk - lovely scenery as always and right on our doorstep!!!
