It has been three weeks since Nicky had a fall starting out on our walk. She fell heavily and cracked her elbow which is taking a long time to heal - in fact the specialist has said that if there is no improvement after 6 weeks she will need some physio and may not ever get full movement back which is scary - it seemed such an innocuous thing to have had such a massive impact. She jokes that she is unable to reach up far enough to get a cheesy Whatsit into her mouth which is a disaster.
I was delighted that she felt well enough to try again today and chose the walk John and I did around the valley between Prodromi and Chrysochou - this time leaving out the horrible hill at the end or at least half of it and going in the reverse direction so that we passed the bee hives where the queen had gone walkabout towards the beginning of our walk rather than at the end of it. There didn't seem to be any activity here today save for the buzz of bees going about their business.
Some of the scenery which we pass is very reminiscent of England and in this valley there is a fast running river to it is lush and fertile. It was to be a warm day - it was muggy when we set off but Saharan sun meant it was unclear although that got better as the morning wore on and we were starting to think that if these conditions continue we will have to start walking earlier. Fortunately there was minimal incline to this walk in terms of us getting knackered and puffed out although there was a hill at the end to finish.
Nicky found the little hamlet of Chrysochou interesting and even went into the wood place to speak to the guy in there who turned out to be a South African Cypriot who spoke good English and although he had only started working there last week was as helpful as he could be - it may be that there is the right sort of machinery there to help Mark with some of his woodworking projects - who knows?
We made it to the end safe and sound although at one point Nicky did have a bit of a trip and a wobble which made her quite nervous and rightly so. Actually Mum had a fall today going into the local chemists there is a small step - just big enough to be a trip hazard and Mum found it - perhaps she was lucky that she fell into the shop and the staff all rallied round to help her and treat her knocks and scrapes.
We spent the afternoon in and around the garden. Everything is getting very overgrown and the pots are dry even though we have had some rain. We also decided it was time to uncover the day bed and see what damage had been done over the winter - the mattress needed a good brushing and the waterproof covers had done an ok job but needed a wash. Wendy and Bill corner got a good clean and we got the cushions out of George's (thank you George and Pam for allowing us to store our stuff there temporarily). Before John and I got the chance to sit down the seats were commandeered by Charlie and Boo!!!
Supper tonight was fridge surprise and a corker. We had all the salad stuff that was loafing in the fridge along with some crispy bacon and slices of village halloumi all bound together with some Thai roast potatoes which we threw in when they were warm so as not to make the rocket and lettuce slippery. It was absolutely delicious and these potatoes are fast becoming our go-to accompaniment to a meal!!!
