Today I was going down to Emba to have lunch with Mum. I am clearly getting a bit walk obsessed because when I am traveling I see little roads and paths and I want to work out where they go and if we can make them into a circular walk!!! Today I stopped just past Kathikas to have a look at the view - it is stunning and there are some interesting tracks which I will have to look at on my app to see if we can walk them. Liselotte is back tomorrow so next week I had better have something up my sleeve! On my way I also stopped in Peyia to have a quick shufti in the new shop which Philippos has opened - Phil's Home which we originally thought was a warehouse but which is actually going to be a shope which stocks furniture and furnishings.
It was open - just. There were about a dozen members of staff and about a quarter of the floor space laid out with items to purchase. I am thinking that the accessories will need to be a bit cheaper otherwise everyone will just trek off to Jumbos and the furniture is nice but expensive.
I particularly liked this outside chair which was constructed with aluminium and rope - it was stylish but at just short of a grand far too expensive for we mere pensioners!!!
I jumped back in the car and made my way to mum's via Grande in search of Dreamies for Boo but they had none and via Lemba Bazaar where I managed to get another set of bath mats for the shower room which, at 3 euros a pop, are cheap as chips and do a great job - it has only taken us 10 years to find the very thing that we need!!!
I went to the garden centre with Mum before lunch - she was looking for something colourful which would withstand full sun for most of the day and we plumped for some portulaca - doubles in shades of pink, peach and yellow. We don't know for certain if they will survive but at 50cents each it is hardly going to break the bank.
I gave mum a master class on cooking the best scrambled eggs in the microwave and we had an hour or so afterwards chatting before I made my way back home. We had asked Nicky and Mark to pop in for a drink but were top trumped by Das and Belinda who have had their recent building works completed and wanted the four of us to go round and christen their new room (which joins the two buildings).
In the short amount of time they have been living there they have transformed that house. They are taking their time and doing work as and when money allows and are turning it into a lovely house that suits their needs. Amazingly, even though they have Lindy their rescue dog, both Charlie and Boris came around to check out the new room. They have opted for a curtain rather than permanent doors but it works and we had a lovely time there and it was a school night. I have the distinct impression I will have a baggy head in the morning!
