Today we decided to bite the bullet and go to Limassol to have a look at cars - we keep thinking that either Kenny or The Pug should be replaced but we cannot decide which because they both have merits and they both have issues - we know that if we get rid of Kenny we will never do the off-roading that we love and parts for Kenny are difficult and Kenny is getting a little elderly and we know that we have loved the comfort and versatility of The Pug but it is not the most economical drive and again it is getting a bit older and sometimes parts for Puggy have been difficult and expensive to source.
It was a very hot day and we really don't know Limassol very well at all - in fact we haven't been more than a handful of times and not recently so we were pleased to accept John and Liselotte's offer that they would come with us and act as navigators - they used to work in Limassol so know it really well and Liselotte had somewhere in mind for lunch which we would never have found - in fact we wouldn't have known anywhere particular to go.
Some of the back streets of the Old Town are fascinating and beautiful - it was a little too hot to be able to take it all in - I would like to return when it is cooler so that I can go and check out all the fabulous street art and old colonial buildings. I have a feeling we may have been somewhere near the area where I would have gone with Jeanette's craft group years ago when she would organise a trip to Jumbo followed by a trip to a beautiful little shop where they sold tiles and beads for mosaicing.
Fortunately most of the car sales places we wanted to visit were located on the same street so we went down one side calling in to those that we could access as parking is a bit of a nightmare and then went down to the bottom and turned round to do those on the opposite side. At the bottom we were at the Port and were able to see the grey top of the Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier which is currently on exercise in the Med.
We ended up having a fabulous lunch in one of Liselotte's favourite eateries from her time in Limassol - a place called Pi which specialised in sandwiches and salads which were out of this world. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good salad - something a bit out of the ordinary and this was right up my street. The sandwiches and salad were ENORMOUS and we ended up having to take half home!!!
We left after lunch as we were hot and bothered. We had passed a fire on our way which was near Pissouri and then we passed another larger one on our way home which was somewhere near Acheleia which was filling the skies with black black smoke and then when we got back to Droushia there was another fire just to the back of us which was swirling around in the wind and filling the estate with smoke.
We had a nice day - we didn't really come to any decision about the car but perhaps we had a better idea of what we didn't want!!
