We spent this morning shopping - food, nothing exciting and it was hot and sticky and muggy but our reward was that on the way home we went to find a new bar which has opened locally. We thought we sort of knew where it was located but ultimately stumbled across the signs - we parked at the bottom of quite a steep slope which had an archway at the end which led to the bar. What we later found out was had we carried on driving there is an entrance to a carpark - although the slope down was a bit scary.
Sto Museo opened today and is a lounge cafe bar set in the grounds of an old museum, perched up on the side of a hill it has views across the valley. There was some gentle lounge bar jazz type music in the background which was nice and unobtrusive and there was a reasonable range of drinks - alcoholic and non-alcoholic at the sort of price you expect to pay in a place like this, it would be a great stopping off point with visitors.
John was disappointed that there were neither real ales nor Leon so had to plump for a Keo which is ok but can be a bit gassy - although sometimes on a hot day an ice cold Keo really can hit the spot. I tried out a passion fruit and mango smoothie which was delicious.
It is a brave move to open such a specialist establishment in the current economic climate but maybe they are hoping that by being the complete opposite to a traditional taverna they will attract the younger set here. It is a large establishment which they have called the Beer Garden and appears to have no indoor seating at all - the opportunity to sit outside up this part of the island is short and sweet particularly if you get heavy condensation so maybe that is their plan - a short sharp season.
Anyway it was very pleasant sitting there in the dappled shade and the barman/front of house Alin was very personable and interested in our opinions as it was the first day.
We didn't stay too long because this evening we were going out with Di and Rob which we haven't done for ages and ages and we are looking forward to it. We are going to the Farmyard and I think we will all be having Thai/Chinese although I am interested to see what else Rachel and Savvas have retained on their other international bit of the menu. I know that with the current situation they are being sensible about just how many different choices they have to offer.
We spent the afternoon watching the cricket. I can't believe that I now find this exciting but that is the measure of how much this sport has changed over the years!!
I can confirm that we had a lovely evening with Rob and Di and I can confirm that we did indeed have Thai/Chinese and it was fabulous. It was good to catch up and have a chat, set the worlds to rights and eat some fabulous food. Di has a birthday coming up soon-ish - I can't believe it is nearly a year since we went to the Stone Lion for afternoon tea. What a strange old year that has been. Anyway they are both looking well and were on good form and a big thanks to them for driving.
