A bit of DIY

Today we had earmarked as a day at home doing some gardening and some DIY.  I had got up early and watered in the cool of the early morning and noticed that everything had started to get a bit out of control and the shingle needed what I would refer to as a Bobster Clean although I don't think it would have passed his muster!!!  I had hoped to get the whole of the front garden sorted but John had decided to tile the area outside the back door and needed me as his gofer.

This was the starting position.  Now that we have the aluminium surround in place John could complete the tiling which he started as part of the potting bench project.  He had cut the tiles and we had the foresight to number them when we put them away which made the job easier which was good for John as it was getting hotter and hotter.

It may have only been a small area but it got all John's care and attention and he was soaking with sweat and kneeling all the time was doing his bad knee no good at all but he was determined to get it finished so that he could tick this particular job off of his to-do list.

During the times when I was not needed as gofer/Part IV I managed to get the two decked areas in the back cleaned up.  Wendy and Bill's corner is where we have the living gazebo which is lovely but drops dead flowers and leaves all the time so it is good to get it cleaned up and to remove all the cat fur from the seats as this is a favourite area for Charlie and Boris.

This is it all finished and I think it looks fabulous.  I really like the tiles and John has done a great job laying them.  They will need a bit more of the grout washed off but we will let the rain do it over time.  It really makes that area look neat and tidy.  Needless to say having completed it and got hot and bothered doing so John didn't want to anything else save cool off in the pool afterwards and I don't blame him.

It being Friday it was our 'date night'  -  we introduced this during lockdown because all the days seemed to be the same so it marked Friday out as something special.  We always had something nice for our evening meal and then would settle down to a film or some good TV (if we could stay awake!!!).  Tonight we were having a homemade Chicken curry with homemade onion bhajis and it was lovely.  We did start to watch a film but half way through I had to wave the white flag and go to bed!
