Tuesday was the first time in years that I haven't taken a photograph (so the one on the left is not one which I took!) - the day just sort of passed me by.
John was going out lunchtime with Rob and Mark and I dropped them off and picked them up squeezing in some errands in between and it was hot and by the time I had finished I was completely exhausted and I guess because it has been so very hot I don't always take in enough water and so I keep getting a niggly headache which never really progresses into something full blown but bubbles in the background all day.
Anyway I was really pleased that John and the boys had a nice afternoon. I think it is good for John to get some male company instead of just mine, after all he had 27 years in a predominantly male environment and men-talk is most definitely different to girl-chat!
The rest of the afternoon was pretty quiet - I made a curry as I had promised to sent one up to Les whilst he is still able to enjoy it - it seems the least I can do. John and I had our curry for supper and were just sitting down to watch some trash TV when our neighbour Das called over with a bottle of wine. Belinda is currently in the UK and we had asked him to come if he fancied some company - he was working today so couldn't go out with the boys but decided to pop over this evening instead.

Since pickleball has ceased it has been my regular thing to go down to Mum on a Wednesday to have a bit of time together and a spot of lunch. It also means I can go to the butchers as Naz kindly puts a liver back for me for the cats so I don't have to panic about that and on a Wednesday he gives a discount on all purchases so today I was getting some fillet steak and a leg of New Zealand lamb for Argy. It is a bit daunting getting meat for someone else because so fingers crossed this will be ok. Certainly Naz sorted two beautiful steaks and trimmed them up so they looked plump and juicy and the leg of lamb was the smallest he had but still looked like it had come off a dinosaur!
Lilian was joining us for lunch having putting in a stint at the Charity Shop. The current shop is moving into bigger premises three doors up and Lilian has been working hard trying to get it ready for the big reveal at the beginning of September. For anyone interested this is the Friends' Hospice Shop and she has been working her socks off every day getting it prepared. This has not been without issue as the island is currently on its annual holiday and tradespeople are difficult to find. Anyway we were having scrambled eggs on toast - Mum says I make the best - but I think this is just a ruse to make me do it so she doesn't have to!!! There is no secret to my recipe - eggs, salt and pepper and some cream very lightly mixed and then cooked in the microwave where I take it out every 30 seconds and mix the edge which will be cooked with the middle until it is just about done then take it out because the eggs continue to cook for quite a while.
My headache from yesterday continued today so when I got home I went for a bit of a lie down as we were going out with Louise, Malcolm and Alysia and trying the RestoMare in Latchi.
Sorry for the blurry picture - I hadn't been drinking it was just taken hastily!!! We had a lovely evening. The venue is amazing - very modern and very vibrant and very unlike anything else on Latchi Harbour - it felt very cosmopolitan there. However there was no safe pass checking, not much social distancing with tables etc as they just added more as people demanded them and no-one bothered with masks walking to the tables or to the loo which is a bit bad when places like the Farmyard have had to adhere to rules by the letter.
The food was lovely but the service was all a bit haphazard. Malcolm had booked but they didn't seem to be able to find his booking so five of us were squeezed on a table for four which was a bit tight. We were told to make our minds up about food quickly as the place was about to get very busy which is fair enough but could have been put a bit more tactfully. The boys drinks took forever to arrive. The place is huge and there were loads of staff running around but it lacked a bit of care and attention which was a a shame because it isn't the cheapest place in the world and we thought it might be one to add to our list of special places for special celebrations. It is probably unfair to judge it on one visit on one of the busiest nights of the Summer but being so vast I don't think you would ever get to feel like a valued regular even if you went on numerous occasions.
Nevertheless our company was amazing - Alysia has turned into a funny and engaging young woman and having left Kenny down in Latchi and grabbed a cab home we all sat around our outside table in the refreshing cool of a Droushia summer night and talked until the early hours.
