A spot of lunch out...

It was shitty weather today and it got worse as the day went on and by the evening it was monsoon like with a driving wind - really wintery and, as I have said before, this is quite unusual for December.

We had had a lovely evening at Nicky and Marks last night and a slow start to the day.  John had suggested we might venture out to the Winery and have a spot of lunch to save me from cooking - for a while we thought we might not bother but then as the day went on we thought "What the Hell?" and decided to go.

We had a bit of a mix-up with Rob - John had been down to check the post and bumped into him and John thought he had arranged for him to come in for a coffee with us so we waited and waited and then decided that (a) either he had got lost or (b) had fallen into a ditch somewhere or (c) something else had occurred and his plans had changed.  We had even got the best coffee and the cafetiere out in anticipation!  Anyway it seemed there was a bit of a misunderstanding and when John rang him to check he was ok the Bobster was back home.  Sadly he had had some bad news about a friend and was awaiting a phone call.  We shall catch up again - the good coffee and the cafetiere have gone back in readiness.  Once we knew that Bobby wasn't coming we got changed and made our way across the the Winery which we knew was open but wasn't sure was doing food.

We need not have worried - when we got to the Winery there were a few people in there wine-tasting and shortly after we arrived another table of diners arrived.

We got a table right next to the fire and it was lovely toasty warm in there.  The staff are wonderful because they are so accommodating with me chopping and changing what I want because of my food restrictions.

I opted for the chicken skewers with a green salad (no tomato and no cheese) and chips and a honey and mustard dressing rather than the tsatsiki which is on the menu.  John went for a pork chop as it comes!!

The food was absolutely lovely and it was so nice not to have had cooked it - in fact it was so relaxing there we could have whiled away the whole afternoon given the chance but the weather was drawing in and we wanted to get home and light the fire and settled down for the evening.

The good thing about being at the Winery was that we were able to tap into their wi-fi and switch on our space heaters before we left so that it was a bit warmer than it might have been otherwise when we got home.

As we left the Winery we were handed a bottle of special red as a gift with along with their best wishes for 2022.  How lovely - we shall save that for a special occasion.

During the evening I was in correspondence with Belinda about what she was going to wear when we go round tomorrow night for New Year's Eve - she said she would probably put on a dress but might well stick to her slippers - I sent her a picture of my Christmas slippers which are so toasty warm but I think I might struggle to pair them with a frock!!
