The cold snap continues - I actually think we are colder here than in the UK at the moment. Snow is forecast and currently all roads to and from the Troodos are closed to vehicles. It has come quickly and has made this winter much more like the ones we had when we first came.
Yesterday whilst John was watching football I had done a bit of painting for the current lockdown art challenge. The theme is "Currently in the Garden" which could mean anything - not necessarily plants - I decided to do a stylised picture of a snail!I was having a reprieve from cooking today as we had suggested going to Fitos and Mum had invited Lilian to join us. At least by going there we can all find something to eat on the menu. Since I went to the dermatologist on Wednesday I have reintroduced dairy from my banned list. Really apart from cheese there was nothing I was really missing as I don't drink much milk and for everything else I had managed to find a substitute. So far so good - no rash and no lumps which is great. I just wish I could sort out this feeling of having something stuck in my throat without having to take medication - that will be the next step I think.
We had had vile weather last night, really stormy and today was brighter but with a strong biting wind so I told Mum to dress warmly because even though Fitos has gas heaters it can be quite chilly around your ankles.
We had booked our favourite table No1 which meant that when there was a bit of sunshine it came pouring in through the window keeping us feeling toasty warm. We arrived early because we knew that it would get busy particularly as this is a favourite watering hole for the Sunday hunters. We had a lovely meal. Lilian got to have the last of Joanna's famous beef pies, John had a mega pork chop, Mum had halloumi and chips and I went for chicken souvlaki. I avoided the tomatoes in the salad but could at least have the feta this time!
We were kept well entertained by a cyclist who we had passed at Arodes on our way - at this point he was pushing his bike as he was fighting against a terrible head wind and he had already negotiated the long and steep hill up from the coast. As we were sitting down waiting to order we saw him cycle past and then, because he was probably in need of some energy and warmth, he turned round, and came in and had a rest, a warm and a kebab. He seemed to have his whole world attached to his bike and when he came to leave was outside desperately trying to get all his gear on but the wind had other ideas - I think we watched him for about quarter of an hour struggling with a windcheater. When he did get everything on and mounted his bike he seemed to have a problem with the gears so as we were leaving we saw him heading back towards the side of Fitos to investigate the issue.
Today I finished my current crochet project - in fact I have used up all my old wool - even making some tassels for the corners. Watching me crochet is painful but I get there in the end. Liselotte wants to learn how to make squares to join together to make a blanket. I can show her how I do it but it isn't the way it should be done!!!
We had an early night because we have a load of things we need to do tomorrow including venturing down to the Bank which means negotiating the road works on the Mesoghi Avenue. We also need to check for our water bill which sometimes arrives in the post box but more often than not doesn't and I don't want to do what I did last year and forget to pay our bills although I did George and Pam's and that didn't jog my memory about our own and we need to ring in our meter readings for the electricity. Thank goodness we had quite a lot of units in the bank because this has been a poor couple of months for electricity generation compared with last year plus as it has been so cold we have been using more electricity for heating than we would normally. Still we have totted up our bills for this year so far and the total is less than €100 which is less than we pay for water so we can't really complain!
