A brisk walk around Evretou

We had to meet somebody at Skouli this morning at 10.30am and we overslept because for some reason John was wide awake at 2.30am and got up to watch some TV before coming back to bed an hour or so later.  Anyway we managed to make it in time just! and only then by the seat of our pants.  Before we left I had got John to agree to go for a bit of a walk whilst it remained dry which, as it turned out, wasn't for long but we headed out for Evretou Dam for some fresh air.

A lot of the reservoirs are overflowing after all the rain we have had over Winter.  This one was high but not about to breach its boundaries.  It was rather soggy underfoot - there were loads of workmen on the causeway trying to clear the drains and get rid of any standing water.  It was cool and grey and the reservoir looked quite dark and menacing particularly as we were surrounded by the sound of gunshot as it was a Wednesday in the hunting season.

As we made our way back to the car it started to rain - big heavy drops and the downpour remained steady until we got to Polis where the sun was shining.  I had to go and pick up a parcel from the Post Office - there is a new and rather complicated system for getting parcels particularly if the Post Office deem that there are charges.  I had paid those online but there was no record of that when I got to Polis.  Fortunately we know Keopa there and he let me take my parcel and they made a note that I had paid the charges.

It was grey and chilly when we got back home.  I decided that the best thing to do was to camp out in the conservatory with the ironing board because it was warm in there or at least warmer than in the lounge and the ironing would keep me warm and John would have some clothes that would mean he wouldn't look like a down and out.

We had the Olympics on - we have been enjoying all the various weird sports that they have been televising - top of our list today was the double luge which is a sight to behold so now we are looking forward to the double luge relay!!!  We were also quite fascinated by the freeski not least for the strange names they give the 'tricks' most of which you really don't want to Google for fear of getting results you weren't anticipating - like the Nose Butter (I think)!!!

Anyway I ended up with with an empty laundry basket which is quite a rare thing and actually very satisfying and because of the weather today it is unlikely to be filled again for a couple of days.  My poor iron is looking like it has seen better days.  When it arrived it had been dropped in transit so I got my money back and John put it back together which was just the sort of thing Dad would have done but he would have added a generous dollop of  Araldite for good measure - growing up we had all sorts of things with that unmistakable golden yellow glue holding bits together!

This evening we tried a wine we have not had before.  Mum's dentist had given her a bottle of white and a bottle of red Eros for Christmas and Mum, being a non-drinker now, had given them to us.  We had investigated the red earlier in the week and declared it cooking quality so we weren't expecting much from the white and even more so because we couldn't find anything about it on tintyweb.  As it turned out it was actually quite palatable when drunk with our meal which we reckoned was so blooming spicy that our tastebuds were shot anyway!!!

John was staying up this evening to watch the Footie.  The game didn't kick off until 9.45pm and he had had a disrupted night's sleep last night but currently the Mighty Blades are on a bit of a roll so he was determined to stay up.

To make it a nice evening before the trials and tribulations of the football I was cooking a new dish tonight which was a Thai Pork and Peanut Curry which we were serving with egg noodles rather than rice.

I cut down on the amount of Red Thai Chili paste and Peanut Butter but added half a fresh chili to the recipe and bloody hell it was hot but really nicely hot.  This was such an easy but such a great tasting meal and John was over the moon that there was enough left over for him for lunch tomorrow when I am going down to Paphos.
