Today is International Women's Day. Last year John, Mum and I went to a concert at the Vasilikon Winery celebrating women and hoping that the forthcoming year would see the end of Covid restrictions and a return to some normality. Little did we think that we would be facing a future where some mad man seems to be hell bent on destroying the world. On a day that celebrates women I was so impressed by a news report that featured Kaja Kallas, not a name I recognised, but it transpires that she is the Prime Minister of Estonia following in her father's footsteps. There now seems to be a whole raft of amazing women holding positions of power in countries which until recently would have seemed to have been completely male dominated. She was so articulate on the stage and commanded such presence even though she was sharing it with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The world needs more women like Kaja Kallas.
We rang CYTA this morning to tell them about the issues we had with the router and they checked it out and confirmed that we could go and change it which we did in Polis. It came brand new out of the box so had to be configured to match the old one which is always a bit of a ball-ache because I can never remember where it is that we change the name and the password but we got it sorted, clagged all the appliances onto it and set the TV running which it did without issue which was great so hopefully now we will be able to watch TV uninterrupted and I wont have to listen to John moaning that "we have a problem with the internet".
It was going to be a late night tonight because the Mighty Blades had a crunch match with Middlesborough - Chris Wilder (he is one of our own although not anymore) was previously manager to the Blades and now manager to Middlesborough and returning to Bramall Lane for the first time since leaving. Anyway because of this we were having a quiet afternoon/evening but prior to that we headed out to Latchi, in fact to Neo Chorio because I had seen a Mirror that I wanted for the garden and John was buying it for me for my birthday. It was being sold by my old friend Jeannette in Neo Chorio.
I used to go to Jeannette's on a Wednesday for craft some years ago. She has stopped doing it now having retired when she was about 80 I think! She is amazing and so full of life and glamour - sadly her husband Graham is not so well. Anyway it was lovely to see her and catch up with her and to take a look at the amazing view she has from her terrace once again. When we did craft we used to sit there for our lunch, normally some lovely home made soup with warm gallouri bread!!
We think we know where we are going to put it - we just need a nice day to get out and sort it but at the moment the afternoons are just too chilly and we prefer to batten down the hatches and stay warm.
Nicky and Mark called in for a cuppa having had a busy day and, as they are having plastering done at home, do not have access to a kitchen at all at the moment so it was the least we could do.
The good news from tonight was that the Mighty Blades got the brief to ensure that they did not spoil my birthday tomorrow because they secured a 4-1 win in spectacular style. I did not stay up to watch it myself - I don't need to because I can just about hear everything that is happening from John's shouting!
