Dealing with the cold

The weather has been so cold and we are forecast to have an even colder snap at the weekend we are worried about George and Pam being cold when they come next week.  Although the days might get brighter the nights will really need to buck their ideas up.  George and Pam normally come in the Summer but have not been able to do so for about three years maybe longer and in the summer you don't need heaters, rugs and duvets but at the moment you sure as hell do.  It is currently colder here than the Falkland Islands and I think people struggle to appreciate just how cold the houses are at night when you are just sitting around.  We have been in contact with Malcolm and Louise to suggest duvets and throws might be required - the trouble is that Cypriot bedding sizes are different to UK bedding sizes so that all adds to the difficulty.  I am going to go and investigate what Jumbos have in stock and I wanted to make sure that if I bought some throws they would match the bedding!!

The pool workers were there when we went in to have a look round this morning.  We were glad to see them in action as we want George and Pam to see some positive progress.  I shall have to get the house aired before they come as I can smell the distinct whiff of Cypriot fags in the house - I guess they probably have one lit when they are walking in and out.

We were having brunch this morning - I am making the most of the fact that John has been converted to eating asparagus because we had it again today with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon.  This was to tide us over until we had our date night steaks this evening.  Delicious!!! and I had squeezed some more oranges so we had that as well.

This is not the best photograph in the world but I was keen to get my gift for Isabel wrapped up and I sat in the conservatory with my trusty glue gun - obviously there is quite a bit of shadow from the glass.

It took me a while to finally decide upon the pebbles and their placement.  I varnished it all before gluing it to the frame.  It took me a while to work out how to separate the bits of the frame so I could get it how I wanted it!!!

So finished article and if you cannot read the wording it says...

Maybe I cant stop the downpour but I will always join you for a walk in the rain

...and it is supposed to look like Isabel and her dog Andro

Our steaks this evening were by far the largest we have had from Naz.  I am going to have to concede and admit that sometimes you can have a steak that is just too big!!!  The quality of the meat was excellent but they are proving a challenge for me to get cooked through without the outsides getting a bit over done.

We had steak, homemade oven baked onion rings, spicy wedges and peas and my homemade sauce.  It was delicious - in fact two delicious meals in one day - what more can you want?

I don't want to big up Naz's steaks too much just in case I go to get some and he has sold out but these two monster local fillet were €6.50 each and tender and juicy.  You can see why I say that with all the price increases we can eat as well, if not better, than going out and much cheaper.  To be fair it is really too cold to sit in a taverna at the moment unless they have a fire and you are on top of it.

Hopefully this next forecast cold snap will be the last this winter - we really have had enough of it now and I am supposed to be walking with Rachel in the morning.
