We had lovely bright sunshine to start the day. Bright sunshine but a bitter wind again so it was ok in a sheltered spot but that was about it! We decided that we would go down to Polis (where it is always warmer) and do our shopping, have a coffee in Coffee Island and go for a walk but not necessarily in that order!!! We sorted out our shopping list which wasn't huge and set off for the sunshine.
The views down to the coast were amazing because the sky was so blue and so clear, in fact you could see the snow on the mountains of Turkey clear as anything. So much so I wished I had my good camera with me. We decided to stop at Limni and blow away the cobwebs. It was windy - you can see that from the waves but out of the wind it wasn't too bad at all and we were all togged up with fleeces to keep warm.
The colour of the pebbles here on the beach are amazing and must reflect the history of what used to happen in that area - copper mining. I found a white stone with amazing flecks of emerald green and then we found black stones which looked like they had once been molten and then cooled to form wavy shapes and then some of the stones have the yellow colour of sulphur. This area was supposed to be developed to accommodate two luxury golf courses but we like it as it is.
Normally after stormy weather I used to go down to that beach whilst John was watching ENAD play football and scour the beach for driftwood and used to find plenty. We found very little today but we did find the body of a large turtle which had not survived. Apparently there are many of these poor creatures being washed inland. They may well have struggled in the stormy seas we have had recently. I reported it as we are asked to do - information is below...
We called in for a warming coffee at Coffee Island and bumped into the effervescent Constantina from the village who has grown into a vivacious and charming teenager who always comes and speaks no matter who she is with.
We did our shopping and returned home and went on a wander in the field where I lost my glasses in search of some local asparagus now that John has decided he likes it. We had bought some from Kaites just in case we were unsuccessful. We found a little, not much but looking at what we did find I would say that it has been so cold up here this year that the asparagus is going to make an appearance very late this year.
