We have a cold snap ahead

We have been forecast a really chilly spell - deep joy!  The weather overnight was atrocious with thunderstorms, hail and snow and gale force winds. We entertain ourselves by reading questions on social media like "will it be warm enough to swim in an unheated outdoor pool next week?" well yes possibly if you are fully wetsuited up - failing that I have heard that Greenwood Butchers are selling lard (typically now very hard to find on the island!).

We didn't have much planned for today so John got up to watch the news and left me to have a lovely warm lie-in.  I was joined by the boys who were snuggled down resting on my legs.

They look so comfy I can't bear to move them even though I know that there will be some of you who don't approve of or agree with pets on beds - I just think you are weird!!

It was really quite hard to summon up the energy to get up but I got a phone call about a delivery which I needed to pick up and I had ordered Sheila a phone cover which had arrived and I said I would drop it off when I was passing so John had suggested going there today and popping in to Paps for some bread, grabbing a drink at Coffee Island and then checking out the pizza place on the corner with a view to ordering a delivery for this evening so I didn't have to cook.  I thought I should get up and show willing before he changed his mind.

John was also hoping to see Bassam today.  Bassam is carrying out some work at George and Pam's along with ShipShape and John is trying to keep it on track and in budget.  The weather has caused works to pause at the moment but there may be other things in the pipeline and John needed to get some idea on costs.  I also needed to speak to Bassam to see if he could find some paperwork for Elena's mum who had phoned me last night asking for my help.

Bassam came in for coffee and a chat with John and then John followed him back to Droushia Castle to see if he could find the paperwork Elizabeth is looking for.

John returned with paperwork (not the right ones though sadly) and a whole load of freshly picked local wild asparagus and a huge jam-jar of Bassam's own honey made from bees whose hives have been situated under carob trees.  It has a wonderful rich colour and smells amazing so shall look forward to trying that soon.

John didn't used to eat asparagus but has actually asked that we have it for breakfast tomorrow with some cheesy scrambled eggs and bacon.  I am more than happy to do that - I love the asparagus.  In fact if breakfast proves to be a success I shall go and find some from the field where I lost my glasses - wild asparagus might be expensive but the last lot I picked cost me nearly €500 because I lost my bloody glasses whilst doing it!!!

In fact if the weather is nice tomorrow I may drag John out for a walk and we can go together - I wonder if we might locate my old pair of glasses?

I think it is magic that I get a call to tell me that I have a parcel from TNT and that it will be left at the garage in Kathikas - it is perfectly safe there and I knew that the parcel was my new rug which we purchased to go under the dining room table.  I had chosen it to match the one which is under the coffee table - I couldn't find an exact match but thought this would be near as damn-it.   The man at the till kindly picked up the rug and carried it to the car and made sure it was safe.  John and I then shot off down to see Sheila and Klaus and exchanged her phone cover for a lovely big bag of fresh avocados!  We shall be having Sunday lunch with them (and Mum) on mother's day which will be lovely.

We did a bit of shopping, grabbed some menus from Pizza Master and then decamped to Coffee Island to study over a coffee for John and a chamomile tea for me.  We made our choices, sent the pizza place a text with a pin to show roughly where we live and then went into the pizza place just to double check everything was ok so that we would know the routine for another time.

On getting home our first priority was to get the new rug down and in place.  I love it and John's loves it too so that is great.  He was a bit worried it might be too blue as it was described as being blue and charcoal but it is designed to look distressed and washed out so is quite muted.

I smiled to myself because I could just visualise Dad's look of incredulity that anyone would buy something that looked distressed and washed out - he couldn't get his head around torn jeans - I wore some once and he questioned the fact that I had paid good money for something that looked like it had been dragged around and damaged - bless him!

We had organised for an early delivery of our pizzas - one village pizza and one carnivore pizza both with extra chili flakes for some added va-va-voom.  We fully appreciated that having to have it delivered from Polis would mean that they wouldn't be quite the same as eating them fresh but it has been such a long time since I have been able to have a pizza we didn't really care.

The poor delivery guy had a bit of a problem finding us but John was waiting down the alley to rescue our supper as soon as it did arrive.  We had to order two to make it worth their while coming up to deliver so it wasn't the cheapest supper but we couldn't eat all of the pizzas so there was enough left over for us to have as a snack lunch tomorrow.  We really liked the carnivore - the village was maybe a bit too cheesy and personally I would have liked crispier bases but guess this is the downside of having a delivery.  We may well use them again though.
