Happy Birthday Mum

We had some good news today because our insurance company agreed to make a payment towards the damage we incurred after the tornado even though our insurance policy did not actually cover us.  This was a gesture of goodwill as we have been with them for some time.  The payment was deposited into our account today and will cover about half of the costs of replacing the damaged goods which was so very kind of them.  As they say you never know how good your insurance company is going to be until you need to make a claim.  I did not think we were covered - these things are deemed 'an act of God' so didn't expect anything so this was a bonus.

Today was my mum's 87th birthday and she had arranged for a small afternoon tea party at Peggy's Secret Garden in Peyia.  We were a small but perfectly formed group.  My mum, my sister Kaye, me, Nicky's mum Liz, Lilian, Sandy, Fran and Sue.  It was lovely weather-wise and this time we all arrived without any issue - no falls, no trips thank goodness.

The food was superb, I can thoroughly recommend this as a venue for afternoon tea, it was by far better than what we had at the Elea when I went with Nicky and Rachel and better than we have had recently at the Elysium.

Our savoury selection was made up of sausage rolls and caramelised onion and cheese quiches and feta and spinach wrapped in puff pastry and then sandwiches of ham and tomato, egg mayonnaise, chicken and stuffing and cheese and coleslaw.

The cake selection was amazing but I had eaten too much savoury so John dipped in as I took what I didn't eat home.  There were scones, jam and cream or cream and jam if you are from Dorset!  Little angel cakes, carrot cake, lemon meringue tarts and chocolate brownies.

With this you started with a complimentary drink which could have been alcoholic but I was driving and then tea or coffee afterwards.  Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves - the only trouble is that with a long table it is quite difficult to get to speak to everyone but I tried to make sure that everyone was involved in the conversation.  I think Mum enjoyed herself - they had certainly gone out of their way to make it special.  They had catered for my sister who is dairy free and they had catered for Mum who is diabetic.

All in all a very successful afternoon I think.
