We had decided to go down to see Mum today and get some shopping done. What a mistake, at the height of the tourist season just about every road in Paphos is being dug up and roads which were open and businesses which were accessible on Monday were not so today. We had wanted to go to Lidl at the top of the Mesoghi and then park in Sklavenitis to go to the bank but neither was possible. We were taken on a very circuitous route through the Old Town. For anyone unfamiliar with the back streets of Paphos (which we are) it is all a voyage of discovery and not an entirely pleasant one in temperatures nudging 40 degrees. We had to weave our way through the city which took forever.
Now that he plans to go out on his bike regularly with Richard, John wanted to replace his cycling helmet which has seen better days. There was an ecclectic mix on offer in Jumbos which John eschewed in favour of a rather more sensible black and silver one. We to laugh in Jumbos when we encountered some tourists from Scotland on the first escalator asking how they got out of the shop - we explained it was built on the Ikea model of once in, you had to go through it all to get out and there was another floor to go after the one they were approaching.
We eventually managed to get our shopping, banking and visit to Shuks the Butcher done before arriving at Mum's who had probably given up hope of ever seeing us again as I had warned her we were up the creek without a paddle. We stayed with her for a couple of hours before she needed to grab something to eat and head off for the hairdressers - at least I could let her know that the route to Dez's was open when we had gone that way earlier but we had been so long getting to her that might have changed!
It had been so hot and sticky down in Paphos we were glad to get back home and jump into the pool. The cats were flaked out on the tiled kitchen floor and Boris was very vocal in his welcome home. Charlie had obviously got bored with waiting for us earlier and been on a mooch down to see Persephone as Persephone had sent me some photographs of Charlie in her house. We never worry if we know that is where he is because we know they love him - although I think he is less than impressed with they bring their new cat on holiday with them!
When it had got a little cooler, although to be fair not much, John decided to move all the wood we had collected from Jeff and Marianne and put it safely away in the woodstore and clean up where it had been left temporarily overnight on Jan and Derek's drive in case the electrician was coming. It was a long hot job and overnight the pile seemed to have multiplied. There was loads. We certainly wont be cold this Winter. Big big thanks to Jeff and Marianne for thinking of us.
