Reintroduction of Masks

So this is my new workspace.  I am really glad I managed to find a desk that would fit that little area because it was wasted space.  This came from Furniture-R-Us in Emba and is solid pine - not everyone's cup of tea because it goes that distinctive orange colour but we have plenty of other bits of furniture in the sunroom that match it.

It means that random paperwork is not sitting on the kitchen side waiting for meal to deal with it and gives me somewhere to do my art.  It is the second week for this current challenge which is "Anything in Green"  Strangely when I choose a topic which is quite specific I get more entries than when I chose a more general topic like "Anything in Green" maybe though it has more to do with the timing as I guess being July a number of our regular contributors are on holiday.

As I write this we have just heard that the Cypriot Government is to reintroduce the mandatory wearing of masks indoors.  Not surprising as the numbers are increasing again but nobody seems to tell the tourists.  This comes into effect on Friday which means that holidaymakers who have already arrived and who do not keep in touch with the news will be blissfully unaware.  At least time they have made it clear that the €300 fine is the responsibility of the individual concerned and not any establishment that they are visiting.

I am also adding to today's blog a fabulous photograph I came across today advertising our beautiful bonkers friend Sally Allan and bigging up her business Sally's Fish Camp.  We so admire her for actually following her dream of creating her own special food business.  If you are in her neck of the woods (Dorset) and you haven't checked out what she has to offer then I urge you to do so.

It was a very hot day again today but we wanted to get the plant that I bought yesterday in and sort out  the new herb trough which is to live just outside the back door where the other one was but this new one is much slimmer so will make access and egress easier.  We have rocket, mint, rosemary, lemon thyme and a small bay tree in this.  John is keen to try some 'cut and come again' lettuce if we can but I think it is too late to plant it now but am happy to see whether I can find some seed tomorrow when we go down to the Big City.

Here is the plant I got yesterday it is a Clerodendrum Thomsoniae or Bleeding Heart Vine or even Glorybower.  It is a sub-tropical vine that wraps its tendrils around a trellis or support.  It has large shiny green foliage and dazzling crimson and white blooms.  I had seen a one-off plant in one of the greenhouses at the Garden Centre a couple of years ago.  When I asked about it Marianna said it was not currently for sale but they hoped to have it available soon.

It is to be planted in the new area by my shed which we cleared recently.  It will accompany the all red Bleeding Heart plant that I purchased last year and which I thought had been seen off by the terrible winter but actually it eventually returned and is now in flower.

It was very pleasant to be out working in the garden as the sun was going down - the temperature was amazing.  In between I was keeping an ear on the Brit who was playing in the men's semi finals at Wimbledon.  Earlier in the day we had settled down to watch the England cricketers decimate the Indian๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜• team with a record run chase as they were set a target of 378 it was so exciting.  The tennis match proved to be equally so and Cameron Norrie progressed to the semi finals where unfortunately he is to meet Djokovic!
