A Man Called Ove

When my sister was here she suggested that my mum might like to read a book called A Man Called Ove (which is about to be made into a film starring Tom Hanks) so I put a shout out on tintyweb and a lovely lady called Jackie let me have her copy when she had finished with it.  I duly gave it to Mum who struggled through part of it and then gave her opinion that it was RUBBISH!  I discussed this with Nicky who downloaded a copy for her kindle and she was part way through and said she was really enjoying it so I thought I would try it for myself.  I don't know if my sister suggested it because there were traits in the grumpy old man called Ove that I recognised in my Dad and also in John (they were born on the same day).  They were/are both straight as a dye law abiding citizens - Rules is Rules people.   Read the book and you will see what I mean!  I loved the book - so much so that I didn't want it to end.  Read it and decide for yourselves but I haven't read anything much since lockdown finished and I completed this in two days.

Friday today, date night tonight and normally a bit of a special day so John was taking me out this afternoon to the municipal tip in Chrysochous to get rid of the old double glazed units left when Costas swapped them out for new ones.  OMG what a tidy tip this is and what a nice helpful guy at the gate who directed us to the bins for glass and who wrote out our official Chit which noted the time, date, rubbish and car registration and area we had come from.  We shall certainly use that again when we have rubbish to get rid of - it really isn't too far to drive and far better it gets dealt with officially rather than lobbed down a ravine (or worse).

We took the scenic route back over the ridge - another field, another hay bale but a very similar view to the photograph I took yesterday.  This may seem to be the most direct and therefore quicker but as you go up and over the ridge it is a winding drive with lots of hairpin bends that ends up in Tera or Kritou Terra.  Still for my big afternoon out it was quite exciting.

For the purposes of research for our upcoming family visit John and I decided to time how long it might take JJ&S to walk to Kaponas Taverna from their accommodation.  We sauntered it in a leisurely 2 minutes, apparently, according to the owner it can be done in 30 seconds if you are thirsty!  Anyway we stopped and treated ourselves to a date-night bottle of wine which came with a lovely plate of fresh fruit and cheese which was lovely.

We wandered back home to water the garden and to get our meal proper - we had decided to keep it light and simple and use up some stuff which was loafing in the fridge.

This is what we had, a large corn torpedo roll topped with spicy mayo (thanks Derek) lettuce, tomato, pepper and cucumber, chorizo and halloumi!

We sat down and watched A Place in the Sun this evening - daft really because we already live in one but this episode featured a house in Droushia so we were being nosey - in the end the couple bought a house in Arodes - we knew that house - it was near or next to the house that John's sister had rented out years ago.
