Storm Eva Hits...

We were forecast to have Storm Eva hit today - sadly the forecasters were not wrong.  We had some rain last night which was the precursor to a bloody awful storm and power outage.

When I got up early doors to feed the cats it was actually quite a nice morning.  Cool and damp after the rain last night but blue skies above.  The rain brings out a lovely freshness in the garden and today outside the back door there was a geranium in bloom with a massive flower head.  This geranium came as a cutting from my sister's garden years ago.  It flowers and flowers and I chop it back and it comes again.  Over the years the flowers have turned from being a pale pink with a white edge to a shocking pink - it provides a fabulous splash of colour.

I gave John a shake and we took Mum's car down to the bodywork guy in Terra to get it fixed, leaving Wendy and Bill to get up in their own time.  Their holiday is rapidly coming to an end and we were taking them back to their hotel today and saying goodbye.  They are such easy company and even though we haven't seen them for three years it seemed like it had just been yesterday.

When we got back from dropping off Mum's car they were both up.  The weather was still good at that point but as we came to leave to take them back things had changed rapidly and we could hear thunder rolling around and the rain started.  We were still all in shorts and I had my flipflops on.  I decided to stay like that because as sure as eggs was eggs my feet were going to get wet so flipflops were about as good as anything.

By the time we got to Kathikas these were the conditions and the rain was running down the road like a river, overhead there was thunder and we got flashes of lightning periodically.  It was all very unpleasant and didn't look like it was going to be any better down on the coast.  We got to Akti to drop Wendy and Bill off and did a hasty goodbye in the carpark so that we didn't all get wet.  What a shame as they had hoped to go for a coastal walk in the afternoon.  Fingers crossed tomorrow will be better because that is their last full day.

We had planned to go out for lunch with Mum after dropping them off but with monsoon conditions all around I suggested that John and I grab a takeaway and bring it to her which is what we did.  Mum used to like a bit of KFC so we grabbed a family bucket and had it with her in Emba.  Sadly I think this along with fish and chips is something that no longer agrees with me because later in the day I was feeling rather unwell with my hernia thing.  It feels like sea-sickness and a massive hangover combined which is very unpleasant.

The weather had improved for our ride home but soon deteriorated again.  We got home and planned to settle and watch the TV but the electric went off for an hour or so - fortunately we always have plenty of candles around so we weren't in the dark.  The house isn't too cold at the moment even in a storm so we were fine just had to sit it out until normal service was resumed.

The poor cats had to dash out to go to the loo and then came back indoors absolutely soaking.  We always have towels to hand and they don't actually mind being dried off but poor Boo looks really sorry for himself!

The power was restored and we did manage to finish watching the bonkers series we had started - The House Across The Street.  Unfortunately the story line was bizarre and the lead actress had a voice which did my head in but having started it we sat it out.

We have now started House of the Dragon.  We enjoyed Game of Thrones so think this will be more up our street.  The rain didn't stop so we went to bed armed with towels just in case we got cold wet cats on the bed.  You could tell it was colder outside as all three came to keep warm.
