What a Glorious Day

We had a lovely lie-in this morning.  Nothing needing to be doing with regard to Sunday Lunch as Jane and John were picking up Mum and we were going down to the Harbour in Latchi.

It was a beautiful and bright morning so our plan to eat outside looked intact.  We had a text from Jane to say that their hire-car (which comes with their accommodation) had a flat battery but that the guy who owned it was taking it to Peyia and it should be sorted in time for them to drive as planned otherwise Mum was going to do the honours.

Whilst we were waiting we had a look around the garden - the fruit trees have started to sprout new leaves again and there are signs of some little lemons growing but this happens and then we have a cold snap and they drop off.  We live in hope every year that our tree will come good and every year so far we have been disappointed!

It really was a lovely morning - a good start for Jane and John although the weather forecast for next week is not so good.  We plan to do a few little walks with them if we can - John is recovering from surgery so isn't able to walk like he used to plus he is now 81!

The winter flowering jasmine which I purchased in the week is doing just that - flowering and the blooms smell amazing - this is mixed with the Pakistanos which had a bit of a drop earlier in the year but has now put on new leaves and new flowers and when we walk past at night smells amazing.  Only trouble is we tend not to go out at night much!  I thought I should go and give the plants at Persephone's a water - they haven't been for a while and I am not sure when it rains that much manages to get into the pots of the plants they have.  It would seem that the colder wetter weather has put paid to the mealy bugs that were on them.  I had a good look today and couldn't see any.

It is lovely to see bee activity in the gardens at the moment.  We have some lavender flowering and I was going to chop it down but I noticed it is a magnet for them so have left them and will deal with them in due course.

Whilst we were waiting for Jane and John and Mum to arrive we could hear a digger somewhere close - we weren't sure where exactly but then John went and had a look outside and it was on the estate.  Andrea and Julian had had some top soil delivered and the digger was picking it up and putting it into their garden.

As a result the road was blocked so I went out to head Jane and John off at the pass to get him to drive round and come in at the top.  I thought Andrea and Julian were probably building some raised beds.  I know that she wanted to be able to grow vegetables.

On closer inspection it would appear that they have had the pool filled in which is sensible as Andrea has a young son and if they want to swim we are only 10 minutes from the sea.

The digger was moving backwards and forwards across the road as well as up and down - this must have triggered Lakis's camera so he text to ask what was going on.  I was happy to be able to tell him that it was nothing to worry about.  Pete across the road is painting the outside of his house so he had suggested that Mark and Nicky more their cars just in case because rollering can often result in wayward flecks so the estate looked much busier than normal.

Jane, John and Mum managed to get to our house and by the time we were ready to leave the digger had finished.  John drove us down in Mrs Kirby the Qashqai.  It was truly glorious down by the harbour and so we sat outside - Mum looks thrilled to be there - she just doesn't seem to smile much nowadays.  She had to wear her 'peak' because she has to keep the sun off of her face so shortly after I took this we all had to move so she was in the shade and then she felt the cold.  She chose chicken nuggets and chips from the children's menu.  John and I feel so sad that she gets absolutely no pleasure from food.  The remainder of us had a really nice lunch.  John, John and I had the steak baguette and Jane a Caesar Salad and she and I shared a small carafe of wine.  John and I will do our best to make up for the fact that Jane and John's holiday isn't going to be quite what they had anticipated when they booked it.  It is a shame that their son wasn't able to come.
