The day after the Jingle...

More photographic evidence has come to light which confirms that we did indeed have a good day yesterday.  No dramas this year which is good and a fine array of Christmas jumpers including Richard's homage to Val Doonican!  Big thanks to my mother-in-law for bringing my new jumper over in her suitcase this year.  It was a veritable bargain from Sainsbury's and I shall be on the look out again in the sale (sorry Janet).

John woke feeling poorly.  He gets an annual bout of strep throat which isn't good news as we have a busy time of it from now until Christmas.  It was his throat - always a pre-cursor to something worse like man flu.  We did a covid test which was firmly negative which was good and I was detailed off to go and get some SNIPS from the chemist.  Sadly I had to cancel our catch up with Sheila and Klaus.  Sheila is due to go into hospital for an operation any time and I just didn't want to pass anything on to her.

John stayed in bed most of the morning until I started cooking meatballs and pasta.  I made the meatballs out of some lamb kofta from Shuks which I had bought back in the summer for a barbeque.  We had leftover sauce from the sausage casserole so I plonked them in that.  The aroma got too much for John who declared he must be feeling better because he could smell the food.

I embarked on a card/present delivery round then off to the chemist and across to Sheila and Klaus's for a kerbside distanced drop off.  Prior to that I took some mats down to the cat park in the village.  As I made my way to their shelter I was watched at a distance by a huge and very handsome ginger puss who was like an Indian Scout keeping tabs on my move.  About half a dozen cats came to meet me expecting food but all I had were three mats - they will at least keep them warmer and dryer than what they currently have in place.

It was lovely and sunny down in Polis.  I managed to get the SNIPS and then made my way through Polis Gardens and around the back so that I could get on the road to Sheila and Klaus.  I needed to call in and see Gillian afterwards and the upholstery man.

Sheila and Klaus live in Goudi.  There is a river that runs through although for most of the year I am guessing it is dry.  I went to have a look today and it had water running.  There were some coots or moorhens on the water and a big black cat keeping an eye on them.  I wouldn't have seen the cat had it not been for its amazing piercing bright green eyes w hich I noticed when it stopped eyeing up the birds and turned its attention to me.

I met Sheila and Klaus outside.  To be on the safe side we all wore masks.  I got my regular bag of avocados and cards and gifts for Christmas.  They are so lovely - we hope that Sheila's operation is successful and happens soon (it was postponed last week).

I left Sheila and Klaus and called in on the upholstery man to get a quote on him making a waterproof sail so that John can go to the drinks fridge in the winter without getting soaked.  It should be ready the middle of next week!!!

I also managed to catch Gillian and stopped and had a chat and a coffee with her.

The meatballs and pasta were a triumph - I am not surprised they perked John up because they were delicious and I shall buy some kofta and do that with them again.  Richard benefited because there was one portion left after we had stuffed ourselves so we delivered it round to him.
