Mum bounces

I had a dreadful night's sleep.  I had worried about Mum and what today was going to bring.  I imagined that the bruising would have come out in force overnight and that Mum would be in pain.  I was going down to be with her - I go on a Thursday most weeks and prior to her fall we had organised to go for lunch at Tea For Two.  I didn't know what would happen now so had things in mind to take with me depending on what Mum could manage as the worst injury seemed to be to her mouth.  I was amazed that when we had our early morning text she said she had eaten her tea last night and had a good night's sleep and felt remarkably well considering.  I asked her if she still wanted to go out for lunch and she said yes which amazed me but there we go.  She is obviously made of rubber because she falls and as yet has never broken anything.

I went to Mum's via Phil's Home a shop in Coral Bay which sells furniture.  I was very kindly left some money by my lovely friend Joani who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer.  Joani loved her garden and so I want to dedicate a little corner of ours to her as she was such an amazing person taken away from us far too soon.  I went into Phil's Home when it first opened - it had some lovely stuff but oh so expensive so I wasn't very hopeful and just poked my head in to have a quick look.  I have to say hat's off to the guy who came to help me - his name was Julian and his family came from Kathikas and nothing was too much trouble even though I wasn't planning on spending a fortune!  I left with loads of information and access to the website where they order all their stock which is in Greece.

Apart from looking like she had been in a boxing match and come off second best Mum really wasn't too bad and was keen to go out so that is what we did.  We decided to go to the Tea for Two on the Tombs of the Kings and then take a ride down to see what they are doing down at the harbour.

Mum plumped for sausage and chips, a child's portion which she ate and really enjoyed.  I only wanted a sandwich so ordered egg mayonnaise and got a bloody great plateful, roll, salad, coleslaw and crisps.  It was very nice but way more than I had expected and really good value for money.

The waiter, Andreas, has been there years and always engages us in conversation which Mum loves.  I said to her that is the benefit of going somewhere regularly where the staff don't change.  Mum was busy telling him that she and Dad were amongst the first ever customers for Jackie and Costas when they opened Tea for Two in 1991.

It was glorious, all the tourists were in summer clothes and sitting outside.  We were indoors as although the sun was shining the wind still had a bit of a bite to it and Mum feels the cold anyway.

We managed to park up at the end of the carpark near to where all the work is going on and Mum was happy to take a bit of a walk along to see what was happening.  This isn't going to be finished in the next few weeks that is for sure but I do think it will look much better and more authentic when it is done.  This is the harbour area from the entrance to the antiquities up to the fort which has grown like topsy over the years.

Mum was more than happy to take a walk along the front for a bit.  She looks so tiny in this photograph but she is determined if nothing else.  She doesn't like to be outside in the sun for too long having had to have some sun damage zapped on her face so we went down to the corner cafe (used to be called the Rose Cafe) and then back to the car and home for a cup of tea.  She said she had a lovely day and I was pleased - it had turned out so differently than I had imagined it would.

I made my way home feeling pretty relieved.  We will be together again on Saturday when it is the fifth anniversary of Dad's passing and we are going for lunch.
