The weather today ensured that we spent most of it indoors. Rain, rain and more rain. We decided on a massive spring clean - I felt like I was starring in my own TikTok video for a lounge spring reset - in these you see the most amazing houses which are 'styled' to within an inch of their lives. They clearly do not have real people living in them, or at least people who only eat white food, nothing that might stain their sterile 'neutral' existence and certainly no people with pets who are likely to chuck up or come in with dirty feet or worse something half alive. I was actually just clearing the surfaces of the winter's residue from the wood burner which you don't see really until you disturb it and then wow when you do you realise how much there is.
One of my lovely birthday presents was a hand-made terrarium from Nicky which is housed in a Kilner Jar. The lid should be locked down to create its own eco-system - I only opened it to show people the lovely array of plants inside. What a fabulous idea - I do hope I can keep it going because I love things like this and I really love a home made present.
The conservatory is about as clean and tidy as it ever can be - it is lovely when it is like this but generally it only lasts a couple of minutes. We had planned to remove the rugs next week and for Richard to come in and clean the tiled floor but the weather forecast is awful and the temperatures have really dipped - at night we are down to single figures. We had thought about changing out the old faithful leather sofas but that went out the window so I am contemplating pimping up the two tub chairs. I have ordered some new cushion covers and I am thinking about some removable covers to hide all the rips and scratches - thanks cats!
We nipped out briefly in the afternoon. We think there must have been a very heavy storm just before we arrived because Paps carpark was like a swimming pool. We had two large fluffy throws to drop off at the vets for Norma to pick up for the Polis and Latchi cats and after shopping I nipped in to see my Doctor. There was one woman waiting in front of me who didn't take long and in the space of about 10 minutes I had arranged for my next cholesterol blood test on Friday and an appointment with an orthopaedic consultant about my shoulder on Saturday morning.
We had a quiet evening - save for a call from Jan to sample some freshly made, and very delicious scones. We watched the Luther film which was ok - a bit too Hollywood superhero, batman and the joker for me but still find Idris easy on the eye.
We had a bit of excitement just before we went to bed. I had gone into the bedroom and could hear a strange noise - I thought it was Derek and Jan still using the cement mixer or Little Sam dragging his toy car but John went out to investigate and couldn't see or hear a thing. It is about the time that the local lads go on a wood scrounge for the Easter bonfire so we can't be too careful. On returning to the bedroom I could hear it again and we realised it was the windmills John had put up to scare off the birds which having been evicted from Jan and Derek's are desperately looking for new nesting locations! John had to go up onto the roof in the dark to remove two of them which were making the noise. He said he isn't sure if Jan saw him - if she did I bet she wondered what he was up to!!
