Wood you believe it

True to his word our fellow Droushiote, Christos, came early this morning with our wood delivery.  This is to be laid down for next year as we plan to light the fire tonight for the last time.  We ordered out of our Mountain Dweller Fuel Allowance making sure it was used for the reason intended rather than the money just get swallowed up in our account.  John was to barrow the wood in from the drive and I was to be elevated from a lowly Part IV to Stacker-in-Chief (obviously under supervision),

It took us nearly three hours to sort out the wood store and pack away the new wood at the back and the old wood in the front and then clean up afterwards.  I think my stacking was a thing of beauty and much better and more stable than previous attempts.

John was pleased with the quality, quantity and sizing of the logs so that is good and we have, for once, stacked away with a logical system which is unusual for us.  It was hot and sticky work.  Today was our best day for electric production but it was windy and the wind had a bit of nip to it.  A coptic is due at the end of next week and it is one which is a gale so maybe it has arrived early.

Anyway my efforts today got a "highly commended" which is bloody amazing so I settled for that and went off to do a bit of gardening and then out into the fields to do a bit of foraging.  I was in search of some asparagus for our supper.  I don't know if last year was a bumper year after two years of covid when possibly the asparagus didn't get so ravaged by what John refers to as 'Scroungers' or whether it is just too early but I didn't find much today - eventually I got a small handful which was enough and in so doing picked a half a dozen lentil tops to make a green salad.  I think Argy would refer to this as 'cutting' as the lentils are being grown in a field nearby not just some random self seeded plants.

This is the view I had whilst I was foraging/scrounging.  It is beautiful at the moment - everything green and lush and the skies super blue when the sun is shining - hard to believe that there was so much snow dumped on the Troodos only the other week.  You can't see any on the top now.

Whilst the sun was out I put some of the mahoosive tomatoes that Mum gave me out to ripen.  I want to make them into soup but they need to be super ripe for the best flavour.  I do fancy doing a bit of growing this year so plan to save some of the seeds from these beauties as I have done from some of the long local peppers and I have found a place near Sea Caves that sells specialist chilies so will give them a go and see if Liselotte wants some of the seeds because she usually grows chilies.

A bad day at the office for the not-so-mighty Blades so we lit the fire, had a freezer surprise supper which involved eating up some barbeque ribs, sausages and chicken souvlaki along with the scrounged greens and a big old potato.  It didn't look pretty but tasted ace!  We then settled down to one of the most disappointing films I have seen in a while - and it started out with so much promise.  The music was great though and it had an excellent cast but descended into farce by the end of it - one to miss in our opinion - Last Night in Soho.
