I went to the community office today to see if our water bill was available - it wasn't - next week apparently. En route I was greeted by two human sized Easter decorations - Easter Mickey and Easter Minnie Mouse. I am not entirely sure what these two have to do with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ but there again I wasn't sure about the easter Lobsters that adorn the roundabout in Polis save for the fact that they might just have been served at the Last Supper. I bet these cost a bloody fortune when there are probably a million other better ways our money could have been spent on the village but the museum at the community office now hosts schoolchildren several times a week and I guess they have been put there for their benefit.
I was going down to see Mum today - I guessed she would be feeling a little shell-shocked by the sudden passing of her long-time friend Eileen. I can't imagine how it must be for her to see her circle of friends and family diminishing. She used to keep in touch with Eileen via Skype. Eileen was just about the only person still using it and Mum regularly managed to delete the shortcut from her computer screen but claim it had disappeared of its own accord. I would dutifully reinstate it, I did so only on Sunday so that Mum might be able to speak to Eileen but little did we know that she had been admitted to hospital and was to pass away so quickly.

On my way down to Mum's I had a number of errands to run as I like to combine my trip with shopping or admin that would otherwise require a trip of their own. This generally includes the bank as our account was moved to the Alpha Bank on the Mesoghi Avenue and a number of shops where I buy things which are cheaper or unavailable in Polis and the butchers of course. Today John asked me to check out the price of white wine in the Smart Shop, in particular the Tsangarides Wines which we liked because they were normally quite a bit cheaper in there - when on offer under 4 euros but now they are selling at just under 6 euros. The days of cheap wine here have gone - I don't drink a lot but I do want to drink something nice.
I picked up Mum and we did the bit of shopping she wanted in Lidl and then we went on a little ride to Tala so that we could have lunch at the Amphitheatre which she likes. The only trouble was that John and I had eaten a sausage sandwich for breakfast and Mum wanted to share a sausage panini for lunch. Sadly there was nothing else on the menu she would eat or wanted to eat so I had to go with that - it wasn't as nice as it normally is - the panini didn't seem to be cooked and the onions were slippery rather than fried plus I didn't want it anyway!!! Still it was pleasant and warm there and everything looked sunny and bright including the mimosa flowers all along the roadside.

At least the Easter decorations at the cafe were slightly less freaky!!! We returned to Emba and I spent a couple of hours doing Mum's jigsaw with her before it was time for me to leave and call in at the new Superhome Centre to get a second lot of the paint we are using in the kitchen 'just in case'. It is only magnolia so it will be used elsewhere if we do end up having sufficient.
