Easter Sunday

It is Easter Sunday here in Cyprus - a very important day, if not the most important day in the religious calendar for the Greek Orthodox followers.  Just about everything is shut.  We had planned to have lunch at Porto Antico with Lilian as her guests but sadly she has covid and is still testing positive.  There is something about us having lunch with her - for some reason something always seems to happen to prevent it.  A shame really as it is her birthday in the week and it would have been lovely to see her but it was not to be.  We had to make a decision earlier in the week so as we have Michelle coming to stay we decided that we would bale out and I would take food down to Mum which is what I did.

Firstly though we went for a walk.  We drove down to the Rodadafni and walked along the coastal path towards the King Evelthon where my sister stayed in December.  It was a warm, muggy day and there were lots of people on the path enjoying the lovely weather.

We have walked this path for years - when Dad could no longer manage a long walk on Boxing Day we would come down here and walk as far as we could and then choose a bench under the trees in the shade for him to sit and John and I and Mum would walk further.  Sometimes John would stay with him and Mum and I would go on.  Today Mum seemed to be struggling with her back and she didn't want to go too far.  We found her a seat in the shade but even that didn't seem comfortable for her.

Over the years this coastal path has really changed to what it is now - this is probably one of the few developed areas which has been done sympathetically and is kept clean and tidy.  It is a bit of a shame that the circle of stones is no longer visible and has been overgrown or at least it is overgrown at the moment - maybe there are plans to clear it.

This is where my sister and I swam in December.  Mum is sitting on a bench under the trees on the right.  There were some hardy souls in the water today!!!!  It was nice to go out for some fresh air before we returned to Mums to have the beef stew I had made and transported in my trusty old pressure cooker - we had it with peas and beans and it was delicious.  Mum ate a good meal and we were able to box up enough for her to have it again, if not twice.

We returned home - we had asked Richard and Ellen to come and have an Easter drink with us and Jan and Derek came along too.  We all spent a very pleasant couple of hours chatting in the conservatory until an unexpected power cut happened and we dug out some torches and made sure everyone got home safe and sound.  Just as we came back in the door the power was returned.
