Mrs Tiggywinkle

This morning just before John was going out on his bike and I was walking down the village to the hotel to have my trotters looked at (it has been 3 months since I had my nails done and lets just say after cutting them I have the merest smidge of gel polish remaining) I got a text from Jan asking how they could rescue a hedgehog from their pool.

I thought that they had water in it - as it happens it is empty so the hedgehog had fallen in and couldn't get out and was wedged into the corner making snuffling noises.

I went armed with my trusty sieve on a stick which John uses for skimming the pool and managed to reach down and bring him/her out (let's say her as I have called her Mrs Tiggywinkle).

Mrs Tiggywinkle was about the size of my hand and curled up but not in a tight ball, you could see her nose and was breathing.  Her spines were interspersed with some of the biggest ticks I have ever seen and so I took her back to ours and got a pair of tweezers which I use to remove ticks from the cats and carefully removed about six which were about the size of a sultana.  Disgusting, disgusting things which to my mind serve no purpose in life.  Free of those blood suckers I then set about getting some catfood to feed her.  Jan and Derek reckon she had been in there all night.

We used to have a hedgehog which lived in the carport in amongst the wood we have there - it would have been a great place for bugs and insects.  I decided to put her there once I had seen that she had eaten and was alive.  It looked like she had a problem with her right ear.  It could have been an injury - maybe she had encountered a cat or maybe when she had fallen but she started to eat and I couldn't stop her so I moved the catfood under a pallet where she could eat undisturbed and then moved her to the food.  Initially she rolled back up but then as soon as I had put her by the food she unrolled and started eating again.

I checked on her again later - all the food had gone and she was nowhere in evidence so either a very very small cat had got in there and eaten the food or she had eaten it and then moved away.  There was no sign so I hoped that meant she was ok and had not died.  Later in the evening I put more food down and that disappeared too.  I hope that is a good sign and that she is warm and comfortable in the carport and out of danger and eating and will be ok.

I had my toes done, by Chara this time.  I had arranged to meet Nicky for a coffee at 11.00pm which was an hour after my appointment started but Chara took an hour and a half to sort out my trotters and massage my legs and get rid of all the awful old skin off my feet and toes.  I hate feet - I couldn't imagine anything worse than dealing with feet.  Anyway this time I have an sort of purple colour - it actually looks more aubergine in real life and I like it.

It was nice to sit and have a coffee with Nicky we are so lucky to have the hotel in the village even though we don't use it as much as we used to.  It is just a bit expensive to go too regularly.

There are always beautiful decorations at the hotel.  Today they were removing the Easter themed decorations and replacing with lots of flowers.  This was the display in the ladies toilet - simple but effective.  We bumped into the manageress Irene as we were leaving - she is always so thrilled to see us and makes us welcome.

On the way home I noticed the gates of the Corner House had blown open and I couldn't sort it (not tall enough) so I text Giorgo and he asked if John could have a look.  As we were nipping down to Polis for some shopping we stopped there and John sussed what was wrong.  That will earn us some brownie points I am sure!
