Sunday lunch with very long-standing friends...

Our new Sunday norm is to go down to Emba and be with Mum.  Some weeks I will take food down, some weeks we will pick her up and bring her to us and some weeks we will go out.  Today we were going out and meeting up with Jackie and Costas from Tea for Two.  We had arranged to go somewhere nearer to where they live in Timi because Costas is a busy man with lots of businesses to control and the last couple of times we have met up they have come our way.

Today we were eating at Londos Perasma which gets great write ups and is where Jackie and Costas had their wedding thirty two years ago (they got married the same year as we did!).  We got their early - we anticipated that Jackie and Costas would be late and they did not disappoint!  Poor Jackie had to apologise that Costas was running late and in the end they arrived about 45 minutes later than planned - only trouble was that John and I hadn't had any breakfast in anticipation of lunch so we were more than a little peckish by the time they arrived.

The taverna was absolutely full to the gunnels with mainly Cypriot families.  The noise inside was at a level which meant Mum was going to struggle to hear.  We had booked Mum a small Sunday lunch and the rest of us chose from the menu.  I ordered Chicken Giros - it was a bit disappointing really as the chicken was thigh with skin and bone - I would have expected it to have been breast.  We had a nice time together though but I am not sure any of us would rush back there again - we aren't entirely sure where the place gets its reputation.  It is on the way to the airport so captures trade from people going there but the food was so much more expensive than we would pay for the same food here, I guess that is one of the benefits of being up in the hills!!!

It is always lovely to see Jackie and Costas.  We have been friends for over 30 years.  The next time we meet will be for their daughter Katerina's wedding in May - we have all been invited to the special sit down meal after the champagne reception.  Time to get our gladrags on!

We rounded off our Sunday very nicely watching (thanks to Nicky for telling us it was available) a lovely, lovely film.  Based on a book which I had read and loved last year (A Man Called Ove) this was a new adaptation starring Tom Hanks and now entitled A Man Called Otto.  Both John and I thoroughly enjoyed it and although I had not envisaged Ove/Otto looking like Tom Hanks he was brilliant and the book kept quite faithfully to the original story.  I am now going to find the original film version - which will have subtitles to see how much that might have differed from what we saw last night.
