No Health and Safety Here...

Today was one of my regular trips down to see Mum and take her shopping.  I picked Lilian up and we went down on what was a very hot sticky clammy and overcast day.  Our first stop was at the Euroshop which was a new experience for Lilian and was successful for us all as we managed to pick up little bits and pieces - Mum seemed a little out of sorts today, she is due another infusion tomorrow.  Her out of sorts-ness was confirmed when I spotted some Steradent tubes which she has asked me to look for in the past (my lovely mother in law always leaves me some, not for teeth but for cleaning china cups!).  Anyway I waved the tube at Mum and said "look Mum they have Steradent and you have asked me to get you this in the past".  She stared at the tube and announced that she didn't think she would be able to manage to swallow one that size!  She had got them confused with the soluble magnesium tablets she has.  I said "no Mum these are Steradent" and when she asked what they were for I had to remind her it was for her teeth!

We then called in to get Mum's new lens fitted in her glasses.  Thankfully she declared that it was a whole new world when she got that done which is great because last time she was unconvinced that she like the prescription.  Apparently her astigmatism has changed in her better eye and the lens were changed to accommodate this.  She was very happy and I was very happy.  We then decided to tackle going to the Marks and Sparks in the Old Town which is no mean feat as the road is being dug up outside.  Firstly though we parked down in the sunken carpark (thank goodness I am now fully au fait with the new smart parking system).  We had decided to use the lift to go up and,as Cafe Nero is where the lift opens, grab a drink as the muggy weather was very oppressive.

I don't think Mum was impressed with our choice of venue.  I think this part of the Old Town has been redeveloped really sympathetically so you have a mix of old and new.  First off she didn't like the fact that Lilian and I insisted on sitting outside.  Our first choice of seating was too hot for Mum and then we moved and she declared the sun was about to emerge through the clouds so I told her to sit with her back to it so she would be ok.  The bottle of water I picked up for her was from the fridge which is a no-no so Lilian had to change it for one at room temperature which today would have meant luke warm!  Lilian and I had a lovely cup of tea - Mum viewed the modern tea-bags with distain but actually they made a cracking cuppa and it wasn't overly priced - yes I know we only have a bit of hot water but that is our choice!!!  Bloody Hell you would have thought we were being given arsenic to sup!

I have to say getting into the Old Town Marks was like taking your life into your hands.  No health and safety in evidence here - the access was so temporary it was an actual deathtrap.  The scaffolding boards slung over the dug out pavement were not attached to anything and moved when you walked on them.  The steps were made up of pavement coping stones which weren't even flat and simply laid on top of one another so that they rocked in a truly scary fashion.  We did manage to get mum inside unscathed.  Once indoors we all had a successful visit.  Upstairs houses the old sale stock and Mum wanted some short sleeved tops, we found her three all under 10 euros.  Lilian found herself a nice top which was reduced and I got a box of two bras which were marked down to 9 euros for the two - result!!!

We returned to Mums where I cooked us scrambled eggs on toast with some fresh fruit to finish and then took Lilian home on my way back to Droushia.  All in all a good day.
