Day 100...

Day 100 - what a milestone...

We were having a quiet day today with NO DIY for once and had invited Mum and Dad up for lunch and to spend the afternoon with us.

We decided to walk down into the village this morning and check the post and have a coffee - it was very hot this morning but not as hot as yesterday 43 Degrees !! thank goodness.  We walked into the village saying hello to anyone that we met - we are determined to make sure that people know we live here and that we are integrating into the village.  People are beginning to recognise us and speak and we are desperately trying to increase our vocabularly beyond Hello, How are you?

Walking through the gauntlet of old ladies and the vicar we got into the post room to see if anyone loved us and sure enough we had some redirected junk mail and a parcel from Laura which contained some turbie twist towels.

This was great and I am now fully kitted out with turbie towels but as they dont last that long no doubt I will be asking for more next year!!!

From the post we mooched across the road to Stathmos as it was the only drinking establishment open and ordered two Cyprus coffees in Greek to a Bulgarian!!!  We must have done ok as the coffees arrived as expected.  We sat and watched some of the local guys playing Tavli which is a Cypriot form of backgammon and the players can get very loud and very excitable.

On returning home we did a bit of a tidy-up as John wanted to make sure that his pool was looking sparkling so that Dad would approve.  I had told Mum to bring a cozzie so that she could have a swim this afternoon although our pool is probably about 10 degrees cooler than hers!!

Whilst checking out the plants in the garden we find that we now have some fantastic green visitors to go with the frogs.  Dad has never seen one of the green flying insects on the left which lives in the Franjipani tree almost undetected as his body is the same colour as the leaves - if it wasnt for his enormous feelers we would miss him altogether.  I thought it was some sort of grasshopper but apparently not - whatever it is though it flies!!!

The Gardenia now seems to be the home for a little green praying mantis again well camouflaged against the leaves.  Praying mantis must hatch out here around about this time of the year as we have seen several tiddlers over the last couple of days.

Anyway pool and garden in order I set to getting lunch ready.  We were having lemon chicken with salad and sauted potatoes cooked with caramelised onions and lemon followed by a fresh fruit salad taking advantage of all the lovely fruit there is available at the moment with some natural fat free greek yoghurt.

Mum and Dad arrived just after 12.00 - they are finding it really hot and really humid down in Paphos and they are still getting regular powercuts in the afternoon right when they could do with airconditioning or a fan at the very least - it is good to be able to offer them a little respite up here with us where it is most definitely cooler, less humid and has a welcome breeze most afternoons.

Having had lunch Dad and Mum retreated to Trev and Vix corner whilst John and I cleared up - John can never understand how I manage to get so many pots and pans dirty!!!

All cleared up John, Mum and I all took a dip in the pool - it was a very refreshing 86 degrees.

We had a phonecall from Jackie (of Jackie and Costas Jackie) to arrange our night out tomorrow.  She suggested going to Gabor's in Paphos and asked if Mum and Dad wanted to come along so the six of us will be meeting up there tomorrow night.  We also had a phonecall from the shop where we ordered the new loo to tell us that it was in stock so we will be able to pick that up whilst we are down in the metrolops - guess we will be tackling the shower-room next!!
