Desperate DIYing...

Today is Wednesday and we only have today and tomorrow to finish any DIY before Dad's birthday and our lovely friends Vicky and Trev arrive.  Those of you who know John will know that he cannot leave anything to chance and will want the house to look at its absolute best.

All this is probably the reason why he was up at the crack of sparrows, early enough to see the sun rise this morning over the fields.

It is quite spectacular and we will have to make the most of this whilst we still have uninterrupted views!

Today's project was to sort out the garden lights.  Unfortunately the lights we brought with us aren't suitable for mounting on the wooden fencing - they were purchased for insetting into a brick wall which we had contemplated putting round the boundary but with such a large boundary this was going to be very expensive.  We have had to resort to the original bulkhead lights which are a temporary measure and we will replace them with some new ones in due course.

You can tell that the summer break is over as Droushia seems to be a real hive of activity in terms of building now that it is 'cooler,' although cooler is relative - cooler than the 40's it was but as it is still in the 30's it doesnt seem very cool to us!  Still we are hoping that it stays fine and warm for Vix and Trev and for Laura and Mark who dont come until October.

I dont know if anyone knows what the plant is opposite - ( over to you Joani) it looks something like a fox-tail lily and I have rescued a couple from the field next door which had been dug up by the digger - I am hoping that they manage to survive as they are very pretty.

Aunty Joyce and Uncle David very kindly gave us some money yesterday to buy something for the house and we will be spending it on plants as we really want to make the most of the outside space that we have and it is all looking a little bare in places where we have removed the plants that were originally there.

Kaye, Richard, Matthew, Elena and Michael all arrive today and I know that Mum and Dad are over the moon - John and I are giving them a couple of days together and will catch up with them on Friday (the day of the birthdays).

We are out tonight with George and Pam I can anticipate it being a late one!!
