Monday Rush to the Vets...

Those of you who read the blog regularly will know that the health of our latest edition to the family, Minnie, has taken a turn for the worse - in fact her health took a nosedive so quickly that one minute she was bouncing around like Tigger and looking cutesie in her basket and the next she was lethargic and lifeless.  Chivers seemed to realise that she was poorly as I had her wrapped up on my lap and he came and sat right next to her and almost stroked her.

We knew that Irene had made an appointment for her at the Vets for Tuesday but we were a bit concerned as to whether that was too late.  Last night as she became weaker we felt it best to separate her from Chivers and so we moved her bed, litter and food into the 'downstairs' toilet .  Needless to say I didnt sleep last night and at about 6.00am John and I got up to see what we were facing.  Minnie was still alive but hadnt eaten or drunk anything all night.  She was crying for food but wouldnt eat anything and the only water she drank she threw straight back up - she was so wobbly on her feet that she kept falling over and it was breaking our hearts.  A call to Irene resulted in us having to rush Minnie down to the Vets in Peyia this morning.  The vet took a look at her straight away and said that she had some sort of virus - feline calicivirus (FVC) with an abscess in her mouth (hence she wanted to eat but couldnt).  The virus was contagious but the vet was hopeful that as we had caught it early then with the right treatment Minnie should make it.  We are keeping everything crossed because after such a short period of time with us she has made a huge impact.  Good job Chivers has been vaccinated - he should be ok and doesnt seem to be showing any signs of illness.

We left Minnie at the vets and decided to call into the Kissos nursery to get plants to go into the pots that Trev and Vix had given us.  We have planted one up already with the most fantastic burgundy geranium which I have grown from a cutting of a plant that was at Alkisti's.

We have eventually managed to get a 'tree fern' type plant for the big squat pot.  It needs potting up properly but you can see how good that it going to look and for the tall pot we have chosen a dwarf hibiscus with a beautiful red flower with orange edges.

We decided to call in to see Mum for a quick coffee before going back home because we were expecting the electrician to come and replace the faulty thermostats so that we could go back to having solar heated hot water (rather than using the immersion heater).  It was really lovely and warm down in Paphos - a good five or six degrees warmer that it is up in Droushia and at this time of year that makes a huge difference.

The man did come thank goodness but we wont know until tomorrow whether it is all working properly because by the time he came there wasnt enough hours of sunshine left to get the water heated properly.  You can see that it is lovely and sunny and bright but unfortunately not particularly warm!!

John and I are treating ourselves to a meal out tonight - we are going to venture down to Latchi and see what Faros has to offer.  We will be eating inside I can tell you!!

Irene is taking a cat down to the vet's tomorrow for neutering and she will be checking on Minnie - we hope it is good news.  Keep your fingers crossed for us.
