Weekenders...

So Friday for us is still the beginning of the weekend even though everyday can be like the weekend if we want it to be!!!

Chivers was booked in to the Vets at 11.00 if he was still poorly.  John was up early to check on how he was doing and was pleased to report the Chivs was fully recovered and his poo was perfectly formed (Chivers' poo that is - I have no idea about John's nor do I wish to!!!).

News on Minnie is that she is slowly responding to the treatment at the vets but is remaining there until she has completed her course of injections - this is probably going to cost us a small fortune but hey ho when you have pets that is the price that you pay.  We are very hopeful that she will be well enough to come home soon - then we will have to go through the pain of reintroducing her to Chivers - deep joy!!!

It really was the most beautiful day and as we didn't need to go down to Peyia we decided to have a DIY day.  It is such a pleasure to be able to be outside in sunshine even if the wind was a bit nippy.  It is a bit of a shame that our house faces North because at this time of the year we dont get any sunshine coming in so the temperature of the lounge/diner remains quite cool and we are soon in shade all round the house.

I realised when I went down into Polis this afternoon that where you are sheltered from the wind and in the sunshine how lovely it can be. You cant have everything and to be fair it is lovely to cosy up at night and put the fire on.

Whilst John was working outside I took the opportunity to get tea ready for tonight.  We love to spend Friday night together with a nice meal, some wine and the TV - it is what we used to do when we were working.  I love my kitchen and I love cooking and experimenting over here with the produce that is cheap, fresh and plentiful.

For tonight I decided to cook Moroccan Chicken using fresh olives and lemons and the dried grapes which Galadia had brough for us last week (minus the pips which I dutifully removed!).  A complete chicken cut into eight pieces with the giblets was only a little over €3 and that will probably feed us twice.  It was a really really easy recipe which I bunged in the pressure cooker and which we had served with Orzo which had fresh coriander running through it.  Even though I cooked it myself it was absolutely delicious.

John finished two jobs today and we are delighted with both.  The first was to make a frame and flyscreen for the lounge window.  What we wanted to do was to insulate the bottom of the window which was made up of aluminium panelling and which proved to be quite cold to the touch from the inside and under certain conditions would get quite moist with condensation (not good in the lounge).

I had to go down to the woodyard for John as we were short of a piece to provide an upright between to the two windows.  Bless the lovely man at the woodyard who cut me off a piece and gave it to me for nothing - just cant imagine that happening in B&Q!

The second job was to complete the curtain track and pelmet that was fitted on the beam between the kitchen and the dining room.  We moved the curtains around and they just about fit perfectly between the gap.  Unfortunately the beam is not perpendicular to the floor so one of the curtains will need letting down a smidge but I can do that tomorrow.  It makes such a difference and the beam matches in with all the other wood in the room.

All in all a very successful day.  Hilary has been in touch and she is coming to stay with us on Tuesday and Wednesday which will be great - have warned her to bring a jumper!!!

All is well in the Wiseman household and Chivers continues to go from strength to strength.  John has given him Minnie's teddy so that he continues to get her smell even though she isnt here at the moment.
