Checking out a Boxing Day Walk...

We were going to do boring stuff today like going into town shopping but I decided that we had enough food in to rustle up meals for the weekend so we agreed that we would go down towards Latchi to check out a walk for us to do on Boxing Day.

It is a Tregunna/Wiseman tradition that we assemble on Boxing Day and have a walk and then eat pasties and drink mulled wine.  Over the years this has taken place in a number of different locations.  Generally, if we are in Cyprus, a number of us meet at Coralia and do a circular beach walk finishing up outside a cafe (which is closed) and setting up camp with our pasties and wine.  I cant think of a Boxing Day in Cyprus where we have not been blessed with the sun and I have on a number of occasions actually got a bit of a tan.  Last year Mum and Dad were in England (in all that snow) but Boxing Day was sunny and bright and we walked the grounds of Montacute House with Vix, Trev, Tracey and dog Murphy and Laura and Mark with dogs Gethyn and Shaleigh taking in the beautiful snow covered surroundings.  Two years previous to that Mum and Dad, John and I and Trev and Vix had gone down to Burton Bradstock and did a coastal walk in freezing temperatures but full sun.  We sat on the cliffside that day and had our food and drink and out of the wind it was quite warm and we were well wrapped up.  In other years we have assembled with our friends the Glenthorne Four, Sally and Tommy and Cheryl and Frank (and kids I think) walking at West Bay and eating mince pies, sausage rolls and whatever else was left over from our Christmas Day excesses.

Driving through Droushia was stunning yesterday - I dont think I will ever get tired of the view and the fact that we are living in a lovely quiet and rural environment - at least we have the choice of going down to the metropolis that is Paphos and then we can come away!  I have always loved this end of the island from the very first time I came up here with friends Marie and Laura way back in about 1989.

We stopped for lunch at the Caravan and bumped into the guy that has come up to the villa several times for the electrics - not Savvas (the man of few words) but his sidekick who is called George.  He seemed very pleased to see us and we were stunned when we were told by the lady cooking our food that George had paid for our drinks - how nice was that?

After eating lunch we made our way down to the Polis campsite which is where we hoped to be able to start our walk on Boxing Day.  There is a lovely path that goes all along the beach and you are walking towards the sun which means that if it is a nice day it is lovely and warm.  The path is not completed right to the marina but there is a little detour round the five a side football pitch which is no problem at all.

For those of us walking who are keen photographers the views are stunning and I could have spent hours taking snap after snap.  You also get the chance to check out some of the lovely beach front properties that you cant see from the road!

Our plan is to walk from the campsite to the Marina and then set up there and have our pasties etc.  Anyone wanting a longer walk which is slightly more challenging can set off from the Caravan and take the road which wanders downhill to the campsite.  If the weather is kind to us then if we sit on the far side of the Marina with the windbreak behind us we should be ok.  If the weather is rubbish then everyone can come to ours and have their pasties and mulled wine indoors.

Not sure how many will be joining us but I am emailing the details to Nicky and Mark, Liz and Bill and Eileen.  We know that Mum's neighbours Janice and Ray are coming - let's just hope for nice weather.  Still the weather today for November 5th was stunning - as you can see.

  1. we had to endure 4 degrees on our journey back south from blackburn this morning although it was dry and sunny which was a blessing - wish we could join you for that walk on boxing day !!!!
