Friday DIYday...

It was, to be blunt, bloody cold up here today - the storms forecast for the weekend have come early - we woke and it was as black as your hat over Droushia.  As we were late home last night we thought we would try catchup TV but for some reason it just kept messing about so the programme would run and then restart and run again in background over the top of what was already running - John got completely cheesed off so we decided that there was nothing for it but to crack on with some DIY!

When we were down in Paphos we brought some thick polythene to put up on the pergola between the buildings - this is just a temporary measure so that we can get a feel for what it would be like when we do something more permanent.  We cannot decide exactly what to do so this will buy us some time.

Before I ventured outside to help John I had a go at making bread - from a James Martin mix that I found in the GB shop admittedly!

Still between John and I we managed to do the requisite amount of kneading and proving and on the right is the finished result which we allowed to cool just sufficiently to slice and then smoother with John's home-made pate and demolish for lunch (blimey that sounds like something Enid Blyton would have written for the Famous Five - no lashings of ginger beer though!!).  Anyway, I have had indigestion ever since so serves me right for eating warm bread!  Spookily Mum was trying out the same mix in her bread maker and she was equally impressed so we are going to clear the shelves in GBs whilst they still have the mixes available.

Fortified by lunch we set-to tackling the polythene - it was quite a job and John had to spend much of it up on the beams balancing on the wood which was pretty scarey - not to mention the fact that it was really cold on the hands!  Eventually though he got it sorted although it was a 'bugger of a job' and I kept having to remind John that it was only temporary so it didn't have to measure up to his normal high standards.  It has made a huge difference already because we had some very sporadic sunshine during the course of the afternoon and it was magnified as it came through and made it quite pleasant to sit outside.

A good hot shower, the fire lit, kitties in, casserole on the stove, catchup TV working (sort of) and the weekend begins - we love Fridays!!
