The weather has changed today so Vix was going to get a feel for a Cyprus Winter's day after all!
It being Wednesday we were off to craft at Neo Chorio and this time we were taking Sheila with us so we all bundled into the car and set off. We had a lovely day - not much craft went on as we seemed to do an awful lot of chatting!
There were nine of us at craft today and we were treated to a bit of a fashion show as Pam is going on a cruise and asked if anyone had a posh frock she could borrow. I took along the dress I had bought for the last Navy ball and which I never got an opportunity to wear. Pam looked lovely in it so it was lovely to be able to loan it to her although she was stunned that I would lend it without having worn it myself - but I ask you when would I wear it over here???
Pam is the lovely lady that has taken the curtains I bought and altered them so that they will fit over the two small windows either side of the wood burner and made four cushion covers from the left overs and they look great although she was concerned that she hadn't made a good job. I will look out for some tie-backs or similar in Ikea tomorrow to hold them back. Eventually things are coming together slowly but surely!
Craft over we returned to Droushia and called into Sheila's so that Vix could get a look at her paintings and have a cup of tea and some Lebkuchen which were absolutely fantastic. I think I have made a good friend in Sheila and we are going to get together with my neighbour Marion and craft whilst Jeanette is swanning around in Africa! By then I will probably have mad enough Christmas Cards to stock the Island!!
The weather on our return was more like what we have been experiencing. It has been cold and stormy all day here. We may have to do the Droushia Dash between the buildings tonight which will be a thing of the past once the conservatory has been built. It is wet and windy and thunder is rolling around in the hills. Still, as this is a homework exercise for Vix to experience life as it is lived here in all seasons. rain is a reality that we have to cope with.
When we got home John was rubbing the two cats together to try and generate some warmth! You may think I am joking but we try desperately not to light the fire too early being conscious of the cost.
Our cats have found a new friend in Vix - ungrateful buggers - talk about biting the hand that feeds you!!! Even the normally aloof Minnie Mou is squirming all round Vix in the hopes of a treat - there is nowt so fickle as cats I can tell you.
Tonight we were having meatballs and noodles in a lemon sauce which I had prepared earlier - thanks to John suggesting I had a cook-in last week. Trev 'sniped' us to give us an update on his day in Nicosia. Each day seems to have got better for him and he has sounded chirpier each time we have spoken to him.
Mum gave me some kumquats yesterday so, as I don't need to use them just now, I decided I would preserve them. This time instead of preserving in salt I am preserving in sugar and brandy so that they can be used as both a sweet and in savoury cooking. Pam at craft has a glut of kumquats at the moment so I have bagged some and will preserve some more. Nothing, but nothing, goes to waste in this household!
We are off to catch up with Trev tomorrow and take in a visit to Ikea. My neighbour Galadia is going to kill me as it is the second time John and I will have been to Nicosia and we wont have time to catch up with them.
Vix time with us us racing by - mind you if it continues ****ing down like it is tonight she might be glad to get back to the UK!!!
missing cyprus but 0h the joys of central heating !!! the things we take for granted

ReplyDeleteGood old EBAY for the dress - was supposed to wear it for the last Navy Ball but we never made it - perhaps one New Year's Eve?
