July 1st...

Charlie found - wandered too far away from home and couldn't find his way back

A new week and a new month and having missed art I was keen to get back to my latest picture - the hermit crab. He is progressing nicely now!  Now that I have started to do the crab itself it is all coming together and I think it will make a nice little picture for somewhere - Mum and Dad have a lot of empty wall space in their new house so maybe he will end up there.

Sheila has had some flyers done to advertise the fact that people are welcome to come and see her art at her house (by appointment only) - they used the new printers in Polis and they have a piece of software on the internet that allows you to create artwork yourself.  The other week Klaus was playing around trying to come up with a design.  This is not a million miles away from what he came up with but having cast a professional eye over it they decided to pick out the picture of the woman and to make a feature of it which has certainly made it an eye catching design.

I noticed that there were a load at the post office when I went to check my post and Sheila says she has left some at the Droushia Heights Hotel so I suggested I contacted Olivera at Ktima Kannides (the new agrotourism place) to see if some could be left there for their visitors.  Olivera was more than happy - in fact she and Spyros are up again shortly and she asked that John and I go up with them then and have a coffee with them at the same time.  This will be nice - in fact since it has opened it has looked to be quite busy which is good - we shall certainly be recommending it for anyone wanted self catering accommodation in the village - I would think it would be nice and cosy in there in the winter.

We were beach partying this evening so this afternoon was spent getting ourselves organised with food and drink and seats etc.

We were assembling just to the right of La Plage on the municipal beach and gave Jane and Mark and their guest Tracy a gold star for being first to arrive!  We had picked up Helen and Al, David and Marion arrived shortly afterwards and then eventually Debs, Rosie and Eve.

Blimey we know how to organise an impromptu picnic but it helps to have posh friends like Marion and David who brought everything bar the waiter!

My frittata seemed to go down well although personally I preferred the texture of the meat one to the vegetarian one.  The chick-pea salad was scrummy but the piece de resistance was undoubtedly the plum fool which didn't look so good but tasted devine.

Amongst other things Helen made some devilish but delicious Thai style fishcakes which packed a punch, Jane had made a lovely chicken pasta dish, Debs brought koupies - which when you think about it are the ideal finger food! Marion brought all sorts including pate and dips.

We all sat round camp style without a ging gang goolie to be heard - partly because the speakers for David's I-Pod weren't man enough for the job which was a shame.

It was a really beautiful evening and the wind which had made it quite cool up in the hills had calmed down do next to nothing.

The girls went off to investigate the beach and to swim out to rock breakwater.  Debs was beside herself trying to wave at them not to dive from the rocks and they though she was waving at them to come in so they dived off anyway!  They said the water was lovely and stayed in until it was dark.

The evening was completed by a fabulous sunset which means another lovely day in store tomorrow.  We packed up and came home saying that we just don't do that sort of thing often enough and vowing to do it again soon.
